He spread his arms wide. "That's been my year. Oh, and Tugger got held back a grade, we can't forget that either."

Coricopat sighed again, "I...should have been there. I know that. I know I've ruined my chances of rebuilding your trust, Mac. I just want to know if there's anything I can do to make it so we don't avoid each other for the rest of our lives."

"Ignorin'? I'm more for tryin' ta push you off a bridge," he muttered and paused. "Not... that I would, even now."

Coricopat's ears lay back at that, "I...If there wasn't an anchor attached to my ankle I might let you if it would help at all."

That more than anything brought Macavity up short for a moment. "I'm pretty sure you don't want me anywhere near doin' you any form of bodily harm," he said, sounding remarkably bitter. "How lon' are you in town for then?"

Finally, Macavity moved back slightly. "If I 'ive you coffee, you're tellin' me what happened," he said, voice still cold but back from the door enough Coricopat could actually step inside the house.

The older cat hesitated for a split second, but nodded, stepping inside, "Alright. I'll tell you over coffee."

"Good, because this had better be one hell of a story," Macavity said, closing the door and going back to the kitchen.

Coricopat followed him, his grey eyes taking in the disrepair of the house around them. Once in the kitchen he glanced toward the chairs at the table, but remained standing until Macavity indicated otherwise.

For a long moment Macavity ignored him, paying more attention to the coffee pot. Finally he turned around pulling out a chair at the table and gestured for Coricopat to sit if he liked. "No one should be home for a while," he said. "You need to be gone before the old bastard is due in."

Cori nodded his acknowledgment of that fact as he took a seat, "I'll be out by then." He glanced around, his gaze focusing anywhere but on the red tabby across from him.

Macavity crossed his arms over his chest and steadily stared the other down. He'd shown up on Macavity's door step and he'd opened the door. What he was actually going to do for the other was over and it was up to the mottled tom to see about coming up with an explanation.

Cori drew a deep breath, "I...fell in love with the professor in charge of first-year housing. I didn't return home over vacations because I stayed with Franklin. About two months ago, rumors started going around about it. He chose his job, which I suppose makes logical sense," his ears lowered and his tone indicated he was ready to throw logic to the wolves, "He still received a year's suspension. I'm fortunate they allowed me to finish my degree."

Rising, Macavity finished preparing the coffee and handed a mug to Coricopat before responding. "So you fell in love," he said, voice level and not displaying any emotion.
