Alonzo's brows rose. "Neat? That's not the usual reaction to hearing something like that. It's just, if you can find good wool, it's worth a penny to sell to cats who need the warmth."

Jerrie shrugged, "Nah, I don't expect it is what y' usually hear. But hey, if it brings in a bit of money who'm I t' say nay? An' 'round here lotsa cats need a little extra warmth. Damned cold all th' time."

Alonzo paused, having no talent for placing accents. "And you're from... the South then?" he ventured, hoping the drawl was correct. At least, he was fairly certain that the South was warmer.

For a moment Alonzo stared at him before shuddering, the movement rolling his entire body as it passed. "Yes, as long as you can avoid trouble," he agreed, deciding that short cut or not, better lit streets were safer plans.
