He continued frowning at her. "Feldiae has a lot of court cases," he replied, unsure exactly to which one she was referring. "We have more of them every day as gangs and bootleggers and the like are brought in. You have to be much more... oh," he paused. "Did you mean the Myre case?"

She gave a small nod. "Aye, Ah did. Ah 'ope things will be quiet for now," she said softly. "Especially with tha new recruits, would be nice for them not tae see that level o' darkness again for a while."

"Which new recruits?" Sonya could not help but asking. The police department was bringing in hopeful officers every few weeks and sending them through the academy as quickly as possible. Some times he thought they might as well hand the recruits a nightstick and move right along. "Besides, in a town like this, it is unlikely they will not be facing that sort of issues on a frequent basis."

"Any and all," she said finally. "Ah havenae seen who's on tha recruits, so Ah cannae name names." She gave a dry chuckle. "Probably even taught 'em if they came from here." She sighed quietly. "And ye're probably right, just doesnae feel right that they get exposed tae that, like they should retain their innocence just a bit longer.."
((I think my brother snarked something along Sonya's lines once. I know he was the one that his mates in the Academy went to to help with their reports since he knew how to write them since he was a Criminal Justice major))

He shrugged. "We get new recruits every month and drop outs just as often. Besides, not to sound entirely cynical, but if they join the force this implies their innocence hit the rocks a while ago." He paused. "That sounded rather cynical."

"Though given tha state o' tha town, entirely justified," she conceded. "Although, Ah must ask why ye think their innocence hit tha rocks if they join tha force?"
((At least it's not Baltimore, Sonya. You'd be jaded real fast XD))

"Besides the fact three fourths join the force to get in on the massive system of bribes this town sports? This is a very dangerous job. To willingly do it for something other than bribes means either something went wrong, or they have no where else to go. None of this implies innocence. Least of all three weeks out into the job."

"Or they believe that they can make tha difference," she playfully countered. "Ah'm sure there's at least one tom that doesnae care about tha bribes." The silent besides you hung in the air, there was just something in his eyes that told Jenny he was as honest as they came.

"Even if they join for such reasons, they soon are offered bribes and exposed to the seedy underside of the world and if they themselves survive it is often their partner that is killed," Sonya replied, voice even as if stating the weather.

Jenny had quite enough common sense to know that the conversation was getting strained at this point - especially since he seemed to be so damn cynical at this point. "Ah will concede tae your point," she said, sipping her tea. "Ah cannae find a good counter argument."

He paused a long moment before shrugging. "I have been an officer in this town since I was eighteen. It has been a long road."

"Ah," she quietly murmured, understanding now how well he was and why he was jaded. "Ah see." She took a sip of her tea. "And have ye seen if things have gotten worse or better since then?"

"Considering the events of the last few years?" he asked, arching a brow. "Only worse."

"Oh," came the soft response. "An' Ah was hoping things were starting tae improve just a little," she murmured. Perhaps that old rosary was coming off its hook tonight. Her paw reached for the small gold cross she started to wear and rubbed it ever so slightly.

"Improve?" he asked with a raised brow and shook his head. "I doubt this city will improve much for a while."
