She gave a small nod. "Aye, this is true," she said. "Ah try tae make it managable so my students can understand me. So far, that seems tae work."

His smile was faint. "So long as you are understood that truly matters. Besides, I believe that if your students could not understand you that probably would have less to do with the accent and more due to student's incapacity to learn."

"Sorry for rantin' a bit," she admitted. "An' Ah suppose ye 'ave a good point," she said quietly. "Ah try tae help those a little more then tha others. Ah suppose ye can say those are mah favorites. If they try, that's all Ah care about."
((why do I see her as being one of the adult queens that would dote on the Hollister boys just because of their history? ::chokes on a laugh:: Oh, that could be hysterical if she went and dropped cookies on Mac's desk to get him to vent XD))

((Well, first of all she would have to know about their history which they keep as secret as possible, and secondly Macavity would not react to that at all well. Any time someone brings his past up unless he truly trusts them would be more inclined to turn him murderous)).
"More people should try," Sonya agreed, nodding and considering the empty cup in front of him before ordering another by signaling at the waiter--they knew his ways by now. He had the rest of the afternoon to get through after all. "Besides, it is just about impossible to get through life without favorites."

((I was just thinking since she was a school teacher that she probably had one of the boys at some point. She probably wouldn't know the details - most likely wouldn't want to know the details since she'd be pissed that no-one stepped into help the boys long before hand, but I can see her trying to be like a mother, just sitting there, listening and then gently offering advice. The mental image I had been thinking was a maternal figure that would listen to Mac vent about his nerves on getting married. It basically was an excuse to get Jenny to interact with more people, honestly. That and she could also ask Mac at that time if he knew what happened to Skimble if we want to go with the idea that Skimble went missing after the Brachen trial. And holy TL;DR paragraph of doom, Batman))
"This is true," she said quietly, nodding slightly. She picked up her cold cup of tea and sipped it, wrinking her nose as she did so. She honestly couldn't fathom why people liked drinking this stuff cold. She gave a small shudder and set the cup down, wishing she could figure out how to get rid of it so she could order a fresh cup of hot tea.
"Ah donna suppose ye can tell me why people like cold tea," she said, wrinkling her nose. "Tastes horrible."

((It's possible Mac or Misto or various other characters had her as students (I noticed her age went back up). But Mac doesn't take well to maternal figures due to his own mother--there's a reason those he confides in are generally male. Interacting, certainly, but I wouldn't say in that sort of way.))
"That would require me to drink hot tea or cold tea," he replied and glanced up as the waiter brought him another cup of coffee. "And another hot tea for the queen, if you would?" he ordered and the waiter nodded before making his way back through the crowd.

((Yeah, Meadow said with the way she was written, 35 seemed a wee bit young for her, so I put her back at the original age. I did sub apps - app 1 and 1a for example, that way I can go and look at the apps and see which one would work better))
"Thank ye," she murmured. "An' Ah suppose ye do raise a very good point," she said, chuckling softly. "Nae a fan o' tea, Ah take it?" She glanced down at a paper for a moment and shuddered. Why did cats feel the need to butcher the Queen's English?

"Less not a fan of tea and more just a coffee addict," he replied, sipping at his second cup.

"So noted," she said, finally deciding to abandon the idea of grading papers right now. Honestly, she still had plenty of time to actually get them graded and it felt nice to talk to someone. Not that she was missing someone. Nope, not at all. She gave herself a mental shake. "So, how many o' your staff 'ave ye converted tae that drink?"

"Me? I guard it too jealously for anyone else to be converted to it on my behalf. I think it is something all police officers pick up in the academy."

((That and donuts ::nods:: I know my brother had sworn he'd never be one of those cops - heh, he is))
That earned a hearty laugh from the Scottish queen. "Ah suppose that's true," she said. "So any promisin' stars in tha department that ye wish tae brag about?"

((I'm not sure donuts were in cops vernacular at the time... hmmm... I wonder when that did start up.))
He actually took the time to think about it before shaking his head. "No, not really. We have gotten some new recruits finally, some of which look promising but I hardly want to jinx anything."

((Probably not - but it is common to see cops today parked at, say, Dunkin' Donuts. Seriously, I've been in the car with my parents and seen cop cars parked.))
"Ah suppose ye 'ave a good point there, about not wantin' tae jinx tha new recruits. Ah just 'ope they can 'andle some of those difficult cases. 'Opefully, we won't get another like /that/ one for a long while."

"That one?" Sonya asked, still sipping at the coffee and not quite processing what she meant.

"Ah was tryin' not tae mention 'is name," she admitted. "But that recent court case. Tha rather ugly one." She gave a mild shudder at the thought. It was one of the reasons she was irritated with her tom - he hadn't warned her to not read the papers while the case was happening and she learned more then she wanted to.
