He smiled thinly at her. "Thank you for the vote of confidence. We get so few of those. Sometimes I wonder if the officers are not part of the problem as it stands, but thank you."

She gave a small nod. "Surely there are good cops on tha force tae counteract tha ones that donna pull their own weight," she said, trying to sound just a tad more hopeful then she probably should.
((donna = don't, if my memory serves))

He smiled again. "If you can point them out, I would love it," he replied. "There are a few. But between us and the Bureau there is more than enough corruption to go around. Uphill battle, I believe you would say?"

She gave a brief nod at that. "Ah suppose ye're right," she said with a sigh. "Perhaps tha new recruits will be just what this town needs tae be free of tha corruption... if it is at all possible."

"Hope springs eternal," he replied from behind the coffee mug. "In the meantime? I will be drowning myself in coffee."

"At least that's healthier then tha alternative. Nae tae mention legal," she rejoined softly, sipping her tea.

"Not that everycat does not treat it like it's legal," he replied with a soft sigh. "But we make due with what we can. Besides, alcohol does not work to keep me awake at all hours of the night."

"There's always too much work," he replied. "I sleep some nights, anyway. Not every night, but I sleep."

She nodded. "That's good, Ah suppose," she said, before chuckling quietly. "Ah suppose Ah should refrain from actin' like a mother hen towards ye. After raising my younger siblings, it's a habit Ah fear to try and mother younger kits."

He lifted his cup slightly toward her. "Do not worry, apparently I make all the queens of this town want to mother me as soon as they start hearing my sleeping hours."

She nodded. "Ah suppose that's true. 'Tis a good town, if ye ignore the gang problems," she said dryly. "Thankfully, Ah havenae seen any of my students, past or present, in a certain section o' tha paper." She took a small sip of her tea, terribly cold at this point but well, it was her fault for talking more then drinking it.

"If you ignore the gang problem," Sonya agreed and sighed. "Which is rather difficult. However, for your accent I assume you are not from around here?"

"Aye," she said quietly. "Born an' raised on tha British Isles, Scotland tae be accurate," she said. "Have yet tae lose tha accent even if Ah've been here awhile."

He shrugged. "I find few people ever truly get over their childhood accents."
