Coricopat entered the Demoniaque early. He'd finished work at the courthouse early that evening and figured he should check in with Macavity and make certain there wasn't anything that needed to be done. He glanced at Smith, but didn't pause as he ascended the stairs, making his down the second-floor hall to Mac's business office.

For once Martin didn't try to stop him, letting the other go by with no comment. He figured Macavity would be able to sum up the days events better then he could anyway.
Macavity's head jerked up when he heard footsteps--but he knew they weren't Griddlebone's. "What is it?" he yelled through the door.

Coricopat hesitated at the tone, but stuck his head around the door, "I was just coming to see if you needed me to do anything specific this evening, Mac." He considered the other tom for a moment, "What's wrong?"

Macavity's fur had long since bristled out. "Nothin'," he attempted and shook his head. "Milady Griddlebone's sea captain came home."

Coricopat's eyes widened and he stepped inside, closing the door, "I wouldn't call that nothing. Are...are you going to be alright? When did he get back?"

"The mornin' after the wake business," Macavity replied, running his paws through his headfur. "God, I just don't know. She said she was comin' back here because I told her I couldn't... let her back if she..." he just shook his head again.

Coricopat considered the chair in front of the desk, but stayed near the door, "So she chose you, then. And you're still on edge."

"She's not back yet," Macavity replied. "I feel like my heart just 'ot ripped out and stepped on and put back in and she's just not back yet."

"Lon' enough," Macavity muttered, looking out the window.

"What are you going to do when she does come back?" Coricopat asked softly.

"I don't know," Macavity shook his head. "She said she was gettin' her stuff though, and stayin' here."

"Then I'm sure she'll be back." He paused for a long moment, "I can go see about picking her up if you would like?"

Mac shook his head. "No, either she'll be here or she won't or somethin' will have gone wron' but..." he rose abruptly, going to the window and glancing out. "I'm just sure somethin' like this wasn't supposed ta happen."

"Something like what?" Cori moved over, stopping a couple of feet behind his friend.
