Griddlebone descended the stairs from the living quarters above The Fishbone. The bar would be open in a few hours, but most of the patrons wouldn’t arrive until the evening. She glanced at the old ship’s clock that hung on the wall over the bar. Just after noon. She’d overslept, Anubis take it. She could expect a few of the workers in the area to show up for a bite to eat, it wasn’t much but a simple sandwich was usually adequate.
She ran her claws through her long hair, making sure it was out of her way and yet still hanging in such a way as to cover the small scar on her right brow. Her bright, multi-colored skirt swirled around her calves as she walked, her shoes clicking on the wooden floor.
Slipping into the back room the tall queen located some cleaning supplies and checked the overall stock of alcohol. It didn’t appear as though they’d need any more for a couple weeks, but better safe than sorry she’d order some more from their sellers at the end of the week. Returning to the main room, she set the bucket of soapy water and the mop down by the end of the bar. Where to start? The place was a mess—it would take her the better part of the day to get this place shipshape. The pervading odor of fish and river refuse would need to be scrubbed away as best she could.
Sighing ever so slightly she rolled up the sleeves of her blouse, heading into the back, to the small kitchen she used for her own meals, to get something to eat before getting to work.
Jerrie glanced at the tom next to him. “Now, we’ll see what she’s got for work, if she’s got enough for a cat I have another job I need t’ go check on so y’welcome t’ deal wit this one t’day.”

Tugger nodded to Mungojerrie, "Thanks, y'trust me on my own then?" he added, mostly joking.

The torbie laughed lightly as he tried the door, pushing it open a bit when he found it open. "I figure Milady'll keep y' inline if need be." He stuck his head inside. "Milady Griddlebone?"
A low alto called from the back room. "If that's Mungojerrie Wheeler I hear out there he'd best come inside or stay out rather than leave that door standing open."
Another laugh and the torbie stepped in, holding the door for Tugger. "Brought a friend, Miss."
"Well, come on back. I'm sure you're both hungry. You know the conditions."

Tugger looked at Mungo, mouthing, "Conditions?' with a slight frown, though he immidiately liked the demenour of the queen from he voice and choice of words and followed the other tom inside.

"Just that she expects some work for the food, not much for a sandwich and the rest is paid labor." Jerrie explained as they passed the bar and entered the small kitchen.
"That's right, simple as that. Thirty minutes of work for a sandwich and the rest of it you get paid for." The tall, shapely queen turned to lean against the counter, looking Tugger over. "I don't think I've seen you around here before."

"That's probably because I've not been around here before," Tugger admitted, taking in the queen before him, "Every bit the lady I was expecting and more," Tugger lightly made to lift the queen's paw in his own and kiss it, mostly playing but hoping she would go along and enjoy it rather than smacking him in the face, it wouldn't be the firs time, but if played right, flattery could get you everywhere. "it's a pleasure to meet you. The Rum Tum Tugger at your service."

One dark eyebrow arched sharply, but she didn't pull away, a smirk tugging at the corners of her lips. "Good to meet you. You're a freind of this miscreant's then?" She finally withdrew her paw, motioning to Jerrie as she turned to work on two more sandwiches.
"Now, Milady, that ain't fair."
"How so?" She glanced over her shoulder at him.
"For one, I ain't a miscreant any more'n you are. And for another, he gave you his name but you ain't given him yours." The torbie grinned cheekily.
"Oh, so I didn't." SHe glanced at Tugger, offering him a flicker of a smile. "I'm sorry. Lady Griddlebone. And I ask again, are you a friend of this miscreant?" Her blue eyes sparkled with laughter at Jerrie's expense.

Tugger grinned thoughout this exchange, mostly just glad that she had obviously decided against smaking him in the face, he was liking what he heard though, the Lady seemed like his sort of cat.
"Once again," Tugger replied smoothly, "a pleasure to make your aquaintance, and I most definitely am a friend of his," he clapped an arm around Mungojerrie's shoulder, "wouldn't be here without him today."

"Really now?" She finished the sandwiches, stretching up to reach for a couple of plates down from the top shelf. The white queen turned, handing a plate with a sandwich on it to Tugger and one to Jerrie as she picked up her own. "So, what brings you down here?"
"Same as always, Milady."

"What he said." Tugger nodded towards Mungo. Though his eyes drifted towards the sandwhich, which he offered a quick but sincere nod of thanks for towards Griddlebone, after all that work on two slices of not-quite-mouldy fried bread his stomach was definitely in need of food.

"Well, I"m afraid all I've got is general tidying up today, though the floors could stand a wash. It's really just a two cat job, and since I"m here...." She shrugged apologetically.
"Well, that's easily solved. I gotta go check in wit' one of m' other jobs so, I'll jus' pay you the 4 bits for the sandwich and head out. Tugger here's y' cat for the day." He looked at his friend. "I'll be back to pick you up 'round 5?"

Tugger glanced at Mungo again, hoping he really wasn't doing his friend out of a job. "If you're sure you're fine with that?" for a second he felt a bit lost, as much as he'd taken a liking to Griddlebone, there seemed to be unwritten rules in this place he had yet to be privy to.

"I'm sure. She'll catch ya up on whatever y' need t' know." Jerrie picked up the sandwich off of the plate, setting down a half-dollar piece instead. "Go easy on 'im, Milady" he teased. The torbie offered his friend a slight salute with the sandwich before slipping out of the room, the front door could be heard closing behind him.
((exit Jerrie))
"Don't worry 'bout it, Tiger. Isn't much that needs to be known, just that you don't go spreading our name around town, or even around the docks." Griddlebone said as soon as Jerrie was gone.

Tugger, turning back from watching his friend leave, nodded, he seemed to be doing a lot of that today. "Got it." he told the Lady firmly, at least that was something he understood, so much for finding something within the law. Perhaps it would be better not to go into too much detail about today if his brother asked later. Still though, money was money at the end of the day, and there was no such thing as a free lunch.

"Pretty basic work today. Mostly just getting the place set for tonight, so some cleaning, some hauling. Not as much as some days, but it should keep us both busy enough."
