Victoria was still on crutches, but Mr. Seidensticker had let her leave a little early, once she'd explained what she was doing. She had a little money, and it was time for new shoes. Maybe even shoes she could go dancing in, as long as they would hold up till next fall.
She moved along, peering in storefronts, hoping to find somewhere with quality goods. This Richard's place seemed promising. She stopped and looked for awhile at the display.

Electra popped out from the back of the shop, where she had been looking over some new inventory lists. "Hello," she greeted brightly, coming around to the counter. "Can I help you honey?"

Victoria had entered and begun looking through the displays. She'd worked up the courage to come here instead of asking her mother to order the shoes from a catalog. Still, she was surprised by the sudden appearance of the clerk, and jumped eyes wide. "Oh." Once she'd regained her calm by counting to three she attempted a smile. "Shoes. I- I need new shoes."

The other queen blinked at how easily startled the other queen was and she lowered her voice to a more soothing tenor. "Of course. Any type you would prefer?"

"I really don't know. Something versatile, I suppose. I need them to work for everyday wear, but I'm-" she swallowed and looked away for a moment, "I'm going dancing in a week or so, and I was hoping I could find something that would work with that as well." The shopqueen was beautiful and very stylishly dressed. Victoria felt rather frumpy next to her, in her mother's altered hand-me-downs.

Electra nodded, glancing around. "Sure, I think we should do alright with that." She considered the queen in front of her again. "Probably a low to medium heel then. The nice thing about most dancing shoes is they're made to be both comfortable and durable, so if we can find a elegant enough pair, they should work fine for both." She offered the white queen a soft smile. "If you would come this way then?"

"Thank you." Victoria followed the calico. This seemed promising, perhaps this wouldn't take very long. Her mother wouldn't mind her being a little bit later, but she knew she shouldn't push that patience.

Electra nodded. "No problem honey." She stopped in front of the shoes display, considering them, and discarding several as too flashy from the start. "What about these?" she asked, picking up one to display it better to the queen.

Victoria was glad the clerk had pulled somewhat plainer shoes. There were a few in the display that just made Victoria wince at how flashy they were. Certainly unsuitable for her work at the courthouse. She wasn't sure how she felt about the straps on these shoes. Her old shoes, the ones she was currently wearing were short boots. Not terribly attractive, but sturdy. She'd had them since before her father passed away. "I suppose this is the new fashion then." She tried not to sound disappointed. They did look lovely.

Electra tilted her head, and glanced back down at the shoes, or boots rather, that the other was wearing. "Well, we might have a couple closed styles," Electra replied, voice still smooth. "But this style is generally better for dancing. But the others would work as well, so it is up to you."

"May I try these on?" Victoria bit her lip, no point in dismissing a fashion without even trying it.

"Sure, honey," Electra said, offering her a bright smile and placing the shoes down on the ground, glancing around before pulling a stool over. "Here you go."

Victoria sat down and after reminding herself that it was just her and the saleswoman, started on the laces on her left boot. The laces were just as old as the shoes, so she took it slowly, careful not to break it.

Maggie pushed open the door of the department store quickly in her haste to speak to Electra, clutching her grocery basket in her paws. "Oh, Miss Electra! Did you see the newspaper this morning?" She screeched to a halt as she saw the queen she sought was busy with a client. "Oh, I'm sorry, didn't mean to interrupt..."

Victoria started when she heard the new voice, and her shoelace broke in her hand. Dismayed and embarrassed she tried to cover it up by working faster to get the boot off. Once it was off she set it aside with its' mate next to the stool.
