He offered her a bit of a grin in response. "That's always good."

She paused and smiled faintly as well. "Indeed. It's... better than it could be." She shifted from paw to paw. "And you? Do you enjoy your work well enough?"

The torbie shrugged a bit. "Depends on th' job. Since it changes day by day, but yeah, overall I do."

"Does it ever worry you?" she asked. "Not knowing from day to day what sort of job you'll have?" She blinked at herself after the question was out, half surprised at having asked it.

He considered for a moment before offering a half-shrug. "Sometimes. But what with findin' jobs often enough an' my sister workin' a bit as well, we got enough t' live comfortably. If it came down t' it I got enough contacts t' probably land a steady job, some a th' work I do practically is a steady one any'ow."

He shook his head in response to the half-query about the store, his brows rising at her memory of that bit of their previous conversation. "Yeah, I do, when I got the time."

She swallowed and shrugged again. "What sort of things do you generally carve?"

"Whatever th' fancy takes me t' carve. Depends partially on my mood an' partly on th' wood. Usually an animal or somethin' like that, 'ccasionally somethin' like a ship or summat."

She paused for a long moment before nodding. "Working on anything right now?"

"Couple things." His paw gently closed around the carving in his pocket currently, withdrawing it. It was still in rough stages, but the shape of a bird could be made out. "This un's probably th' furthest a th' ones I'm working with f' now."

Tilting her head, she considered it. "May, may I see it a little closer?" she asked.
