Clara glanced down at her skirt, making sure it was laying right before she looked up. She offered her employer a slight smile as well, scanning the room as they entered. At least it looked like a good buffet table...
Mac tilted his head at the new comers. He was sure he should know the tom, but couldn't quite place him at the moment. Strolling over, he held a paw out. "Hello there," he said. "Welcome, both of you."

Genghis offered Macavity a smooth smile as he shook the offered paw, "Mr Hollister I presume, a pleasure to finally have the opportunity to meet you. I'd like to introduce my" he paused for a fraction of a second, "assistant," he decided that would do to describe her for now, "Ms Rosenthorn."

Mac shook the other tom's paw, nodding. Damn it, the other hadn't give him his name, and he still couldn't place him. "I am very pleased to meet you as well," he said smoothly, turning to the queen and raising her paw to kiss the back of it. "And you as well."
Clara gave him a slightly cold smile at that motion. "Sir," she said, voice a little warmer than her smile.
Mac dropped her paw as well, turning back to the Siamese. "Well then, welcome both of you."

Just for a second Genghis arched an eyebrow at Clara, wondering if she had been the right choice to ask to accompany him, she might be just a little too cold for this kind of event, then again, perhaps she'd defrost a little as the evening went on.
He nodded again to Hollister, "It's a lovely establishment you've got here." He had to admit to being just the tiniest bit impressed, with all the fuss surrounding this ball he'd almost expected something less tasteful.

Mac grinned at the pair of them. "Thankee. I quite like it myself. Now," he said after a small internal struggle. "I'm feelin' terribly forgetful with a guest list at least a hundred cats lon', and I can not place your name for the life of me at the moment, and you didn't mention it."

"I didn't." Genghis agreed after a moment, inwardly trying to decide if he ought to be offended, clearly it wasn't the first impression the other cat had been aiming to give, and at least he'd been honest about it. "That's understandable," he said finally, "after all, we haven't met before." he extended a paw again, feeling as if the introduction ought to be formalised, "Gilbert Morgan."

Mac's grin returned as he shook the other's paw again. "Macavity Hollister," he said, formalizing the introduction as well. "Ah, yeah, I remember hearin' about you. It's rather nice ta finally meet you. Sorry about slippin' up on your name."
Clara had been watching the ginger tom with a slight tilt to her head and a faint smile on her face, trying to radiate pleasure at the company there. She thought she was doing fairly well for the moment as she considered the owner of the hotel. Hm. He would be a rather interesting one to study.

Genghis was finding Macavity interesting as well, one of the first things he had picked up on was the other tom's manner of speaking, Hollister certainly didn't sound like he'd come from money originally.
"Please don't worry about it, I appreciate the honesty. After all, there are a lot of cats here tonight. Is there anyone you haven't invited?" he added as a joke, knowing full well that a large guest list or not, this was one of the most exclusive events of the year.

Mac managed to not let the grin falter at all. The first person he hadn't invited that came to mind instantly was his father. "A few," he said smoothly, shoving the thought away. "And it seems a rare business man these days that appreciates the honesty. It's good that you do."

"You know where you are with honesty." Genghis replied, "Much easier to be told the truth straight than to have to untangle it from a pile of messy lies."

Mac nodded. "It certainly makes gettin' things done a whole lot easier." He looked over the other cat again, considering him and his companion who had remained for the most part silent. "And how are you lookin' forward ta tonights entertainment?"

Genghis raised an eyebrow, "All depends on what the entertainment is, but if things so far are any indication, I'm sure it will be enjoyable."

Mac's grin only widened at that. "Well, I hope you do enjoy it then," he said, glancing toward the entrance hall and his face lit up even farther. "But if you'll excuse me, I have some other 'uests I have ta greet." He nodded at the pair once more before strolling over.

Genghis nodded, "Of couse." As Macavity left he moved further into the ballroom, expecting Clara to follow him, still looking about with interest.

She of course followed him, keeping an eye out on the rest of the room. "He seems like quite the interesting type," she mused. "Has a much lower class accent though."
