Teazer looked up sharply at Sonya's words, startled from her own thoughts. "Oh Cat, I didn't realise y'were still here. I shoulda' told you, I'm sorry, but you've bin' waiting f'nothin'. The girl for the next shift ain't turned up, and since Hollie's bin' on since the lunch shift, well we both did two shifts t'day but since mine was split, I've had a break. So I've gotta' cover."
It tumbled out rather quickly, Teazer was still afraid of stopping work to talk for too long, her manager's latest reprimand and real reason she had been told to stay on still ringing in her ears.
"Since you did more talkin' than servin' this afternoon', I'm sure you won't find it any trouble workin' tonight."
His tone had dared her to argue, he knew full well her usual refusal to work late shifts, but they needed someone for that night, and this was as good a way as any to ensure they had someone. He'd been working all day himself and didn't have the patience that day for her excuses about what her brother would say.
"I'd suggest you tell your bother to deal with it, we work as a team here Miss Wheeler, you don't want to be part of that team, then just you hand in your apron before you go and don't expect to come back tomorrow!"

Sonya blinked and blinked again for a second, forcing his voice down to normal before asking, very tensely, "What?" His paws were on the table and he was almost ready to push himself up and thunder all hell down upon the manager. "When do you get off then?" he asked, forcing his paws from the table and himself to remain in the seat.

Teazer cleared his empty soup bowl away whislt she replied, making sure she looked like she was working, "Not til midnight, you shoud go, I'm sorry I kept y'this long f'nothin' already."

"That is hardly the problem," Sonya said, voice still tense. "How are you getting home?"

Teazer cocked an eyebrow at him as she wiped the table around his coffee cup, "Y'sound like my brother." she didn't answer the question.

"Which I will take as a compliment at this point but you did not answer the question." His eyes followed her paw's motion as she went around the cup.

"I'll tell you what I tell him then," Teazer retorted, "I got legs."
She knew taking this out on Sonya would get her nowhere, but she was tired and frustrated, and as much as she wanted to had been unable to say anything to her manager, at least if she wanted to keep her job.

Sonya took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Twelve, did you say?" he asked, voice shaking ever so slightly as he tried to repress certain images from his mind. After all, he was the Police Commissioner of the town, he knew what the city came up with in the dark. "I will go get some more work done, and come back to walk you home at that time then."

"Don't be silly, y'can't do that, I mean," Teazer tried to keep her emotions under a bit more control, "y'don't need to, really. I'll be fine. It ain't..." she traied off as she felt her manager's gaze on her again. "I got to get on, I'll get your bill in a minute." she moved on to the next table.

He bit back a growl when she walked away, though it rumbled from his chest when he noticed the manager lurking again. The only thing keeping him from getting up and yelling at the man was his well ingrained sense of common deceny and always appearing in control of the situation. Like hell was he letting her walk home alone, in the dark, at midnight, in this town.

Teazer went off to take the order of some new customers, picking up Sonya's bill when she took the order to the kitchen and depositing it on the table quicky before going back to clearing tables.

This action prompted another low growl from him. This was insane. Fishing the money from a pocket, he rose and walked over to her, leaving the bill and money on the table. "I will be back at twelve," he said quietly. "Please wait for me then."

"Y'needen't trouble yourself." the reply was still somewhat fierce. She wondered if she might get a minute to call Mungo and get him to pick her up, then again, he'd be furious anyway and the last thing she needed was him running into Sonya. Besides, she had a feeling her brother was working late that night, which was better than him being at home worrying about why she wasn't back anyway.

"I feel I do," he said, noticing her tone and not really care, images of other queens still dancing in his mind. "It would make me feel a lot better knowing you got home safe in this town. Remember, would you, that I have worked the streets here for years. Besides, it would give me an excuse to get out of work before two in the morning again." He took a breath. "Please let me do this."

Teazer shurgged, her stance still somewhat defiant. "Well it's a free city, if you're waitin' here at twelve there ain't much I can do about it. Can't do much if y'happen t'decide t'walk the same way either, but that don't mean I hafta' agree with you doin' it." that was the best he would get from her, she was still somewhat annoyed for relenting, the only other cat who could useually get her to do that was her brother.
