Sonya had not planned on returning to the cafe that day. He thought he might give it another day, and maybe even try to avoid Teazer's shift, if only because he felt... embarrassed about his reaction yesterday to her question. Which was perhaps silly, and he should have expected his own question--are you lonely?--to be turned back on him. He had opened that door himself, and should have been able to handle it when it backfired on him.
He glanced around the cafe, settling into a side table. It was dinner, so there were a fair amount of cats around, but it was starting to get late. After being at the courthouse in the early afternoon, he had thrown himself back into work. Damn that Zimmerman to hell, he was sure the other cat knew exactly what he was doing. He was tempted to suspect the other asked for his presence just to mess with his mind on that case. But, those were harsh thoughts to think about the ADA of the city. They were supposed to be working together after all, but they never seemed able to do more than snipe at each other, had not been able to do more since meeting years ago.
He sighed heavily, leaning back in the chair. All he wanted was coffee. Well, perhaps not all, but coffee was the only attainable wish he currently had.

There were two waitresses covering the busy dinner shift and as Teazer say Sonya walk in, she really hoped that the other girl would get to him first. Unfortunately, the other waitress was dealing with a large dinner order for a party of six, and would be tied up with that for a while. For a few moments, Teazer busied herself cleaning tables, before she recieved a reprimand from her boss about ignoring customers.
Somewhat reluctantly and feeling her insides squirm a little, Teazer headed for Sonya's table.

Sonya did not glance up until he saw someone's paws approaching, and then he looked up to see Teazer. "Hello," he said quietly. He wanted to apologize as well but did not want to seem too forward about it.

"Good evenin' sir, what can I get you?" Well that was one way of avoiding things at least.

Sonya sighed but offered up a tiny smile. "Come now, must you really ask that? Coffee please, Teazer." She was ignoring him as much as she could while talking to him. Great. Well, he had really messed that one up had he not?

A flick of her ear as he used her name, she hadn't been so much ignoring him because he'd upset her, she just didn't want the awkwardness of their previous encounter, still worried she had caused it. Teazer swallowed, not knowing what else to do buy continue with the charade, "Anythin' else?"

Another sigh, but the tired smile remained in place. "Ask me after the second cup," he murmured. "At this point that's all I can really think about."

Teazer nodded, biting her lip slightly at the sigh. She didn't do him the indignity of asking if he wanted milk and sugar, just went back to the kitchen with the order.

Sonya watched her and was tempted just to let his head fall to the table in front of him. He should not have come that night, coffee aside. It had been a bad enough day as it was.

Teazer came back shortly, carrying a cup of coffee with milk and sugar on the side, just like he'd ordered the first time she'd met him. She put it on the table in silence, wanting to say something but unsure how to go about it.

Sonya glanced up when she approached. "I am sorry," he said, too tired to deal with dancing around any issues. "I overreacted to a question I should not have, and one I asked in the first place anyway. It was hardly your fault, I just..." he shook his head slightly. "This is a very bad time of the year for me and it reminded me too strongly of that. It was not your fault and I am sorry for it."

Teazer chewed her lip as Sonya spoke, hands clasped in front of her a little nervously. When he'd said his piece, she looked at him for a moment, trying to read what was there. "I...There's no need t'apologise, I'm not angry with you, I was... am jus'... I didn't know what t'say, incase I put my foot it it."

"Well, try not to worry about it anymore, putting your foot in it I mean," Sonya said, voice still rather low and a little bit miserable. "I should be fine now." Fine only because he would be prepared for questions or stray comments, whereas the other day he had not been and felt the question somewhat akin to a punch in the gut.

Teazer didn't look convinced. "Y'don't look fine." she blurted out before she could stop herself.

Sonya blinked at her for a moment and then sighed. "Fine about that. Other things are... still not so good," he said, looking away for a moment. Could everyone tell he was exhausted? Probably.
