Sonya rubbed a paw over his face, slumping down in the creaky little chair in the hallway. One of his officers had been shot in front of him, right through the chest, barely missing any truly vital organs. He had been grazed in the leg himself, but some bandages and he was fine. His officer though...
He sighed and hunched his shoulders forward, putting his weight on his elbows. He planned on sitting up all night on this terrible little chair if that was how long it took them to tell him one way or another what was going to happen to his boy.
He wanted coffee. He desperately wanted coffee.

Doctor Cohen came out of surgery a long while later, seeking his patient's companion, his accent coming through more strongly than usual as he spoke. "Excuse me?"

Sonya looked up, his ears drooping and his stub of a tail swishing on the seat behind him. "Yes?" he replied, feeling his own accent, born from years of speaking to his family in only Russian, coming up a little bit too. He blinked a couple times quickly, trying to wake up enough to pay attention.

"You are here for the Officer brought in for the gunshot wound, yes?"

Sonya nodded, and shook his head a little to clear it. "Yes," he said, forcing himself to remember the English. He was *not* responding in Russian again--doing that once every five years was enough of an embarrassment to him. He hoped it was just the stress of his new job. "How is he?" he added, his voice growing a bit stronger.

"He'll live. But he will have to stay here for quite a while, and I do not suggest he go back on the streets for at least a month after he is released from here."

Sonya nodded again, rubbing his big paw over his face. "Alright. That sounds more than reasonable." He was just glad the other was alive. "Thank you Mr...?"

"Dr. Cohen. I'm just doing my job, sir."

"Right," Sonya nodded at his own mistake, rubbing harder at his face. "Doctor. Thank you Doctor Cohen." He dropped his paw and looked at the other. Sighing, he hefted his bulk up from the chair, using the back as a support. It screamed in protest at him.

Doc looked him over. "Perhaps you should go home and rest? He'll be here in the morning."

Sonya shook his head. "Is he awake at all?"

"Nyet, he still hasn't woken from the anesthesia." Doc replied.

Sonya blinked at the Russian word and drooped. "Alright. Do you have any idea when he'll wake?"

The russian blue shook his head. "It could be anywhere from thirty minutes to two hours."

Sonya crossed his arms over his chest. "I want to stay then."
