"Yes," he agreed softly. "I did notice I was leaving files on the floor in front of his office for a while than actually going inside it. Or handing them off to Mr. Zimmerman to pass along."

She nodded slightly, "I'd never seen him like that, and then yesterday morning everything seemed normal again."

"He... apparently gets into those moods fairly often. I mean, not like often but, it's not unknown," Mistoffelees said slowly. "At least according to Mr. Zimmerman. He seemed like he'd dealt with them many times."

"Me?" he asked, eyes widening. "Oh my life hardly has problems like that..." If he suddenly wasn't so on edge he'd laugh.

The white queen laughed quietly, "Oh I wasn't clear. I didn't necessarily mean problems, just what of you. It occurs to me I know little enough about my luncheon partner suddenly."

"Well, I think I'm under a strict policy of not talking about myself," he said, grinning to show it was a joke. "What would you even like to know?"

She shrugged slightly, "You've said you were a street magician, and you worked for Mac for a while before you came into your current position. What made you leave your place as a magician?"

"Winter was coming on," he replied. "It was getting too cold to be outside, or expect other's to be outside. Griddlebone nodded slightly, "Did you like working here?"

"It..." he paused. "Well, it had it's moments, that is for sure. I'm not sure they were all good ones but they were there." He smiled faintly. "And there were some downs. The ball was always nice, though I think I enjoyed it more this year as I guest than the year before as an employee."

"Oh," he said. "Right. You're the reason Macavity disappeared promptly at midnight. Do you know what a stir the caused for the rest of the night?" he couldn't help but smile at her as he said it. "In fact, I should be more annoyed with you for that than I actually am."

Her lips curled into a smile, "I'm sure I can guess how much of a stir. So what should I be apologizing for, if I may ask."

"The fact that once Mac left Coricopat decided I had to suffer the same fate as him which meant staying until the last guest had left or I would lose my job," Mistoffelees replied. "And be at work the next day. I think I slept that night..."
