"Well, if you'd like, I might see what I can turn up. As a show of good faith, before I invest in the company."

Genghis considered that and then nodded, "That would be greatly appreciated."

"I'll see what I can do. In the meantime, I'd like to hear what your company has to offer in terms of benefits for investors." Cassie took a bite of her lunch.

"Well, there's the financial benefit with the way the stocks are rising. As well as a percentage, albeit a small percentage, of the profit from each shipment. Priority on shipment space if you have need of it, so long as the company has notification that you need space a month in advance," he turned part of his attention to his own meal.

The conversation mulled around business until a temporary agreement was reached. "Then I'll drop by your offices with the check later this week." She said, setting her silverware down to signal the waitstaff to clear her plate.
There was a moment where Cassandra considered leaving just now, but it passed quickly and she thought she might try one more time to see if she could regain any sort of ease to their relationship.
"So," she wracked her mind for a safe subject, "did you ever settle down?" That horrible question snuck past her mental filters and she cursed herself for it.
Well there went any sort of working relationship. May as well make a huge scene right here.

Genghis sipped at his glass of water, considering her for a long moment before he decided to answer honestly, "My life hardly permits me that luxury. So the answer to your question is, no, I did not."

"Does your life forbid many luxuries now?" She said. She leaned on one hand that cupped her jawline and turned her gaze out to the street. She hadn't meant it as a direct question. It was mostly just her wondering out loud.

He frowned at her, "I hardly see that that is your business anymore."

"You're absolutely right." She said, putting her notebook away in her handbag. "It isn't any of my business. Unfortunately that won't stop me from wondering." She knew this friendship had no reason to be renewed, and by extension she had no reason to be hurt by his choice to keep her at a professional distance. Since when have I ever submitted my heart to reason. She thought to herself.

"Well, then I suppose you shall have to content yourself with wondering," he motioned for his check.

"I'll be in touch with your office, then." She said, standing. "Good day, Mr. Selkirk." She offered her hand to shake.

He hesitated for a long moment before shaking the offered paw, "Good day, Miss Amonasro."

Cassandra turned and left the restaurant. She was careful to keep her head high and her movements normal, but something young in her heart cried to walk away from the Tom at that table.
((Exit Cassandra))

Genghis watched her go, paid his tab and left. He had work to do. He'd made it through her leaving, he could handle her return.
