The decor had changed, and the staff did not recognize her when she arrived, but Cassandra would never feel a stranger to the little luncheonette where she'd first seen Genghis.
She'd arrived first, a few minutes before the reservation and the staff had been glad to seat her. Business today seemed a little slow, with cats lingering over late coffees and unrushed to leave.
Cassandra herself felt at ease. This was legitimate work, and returns on investments had always been a reasonable cover for how she lived so comfortably. She'd always known Genghis would manage his businesses well, and this particular one seemed more than worth itself. No doubt shipping on this coast was something that could be relied on to remain constantly in demand.
The waitress brought Cassandra her tea, and Cassandra settled in to watch the people passing the large street window.

Genghis checked the cafe name, sighing and cursing his luck to be meeting an investor at this particular location. He had avoided the place for the last few years. Stepping through the door he nodded to the staff and let them know of his reservation. They showed him to the table and he paused for a moment at the sight of the Abyssinian, "Hello, Miss."

Cassandra carefully put her teacup down. "Hello, Genghis." This wasn't right. What happened to the eager little man she'd agreed to meet with. "I wasn't expecting you."

"And I certainly wasn't expecting you, Miss." He sat down across from her, "I didn't realize you were interested in investing in the company."

"It's well managed." She said, looking outside again. "And I didn't feel it necessary to inform you, as your employees seemed more than capable of their responsibilites."

"And they are. I would hardly hire someone who isn't. Now, I believe this was a meeting to discuss the possibility of you investing? Or was I misinformed about that?"

"No. That is correct." She redirected her focus back to him. "I am interested in investing in local business, and your shipping company seemed a likely candidate."

"Well, I thank you for your consideration. Shall we discuss business then?"

"Of course." Cassandra pulled a small notepad from her handbag, and flipped to a clear page. "What sort of conditions are you prepared to agree to, upon investment?"

"What did you have in mind?" He asked, nodding to the wiater who filled his water glass.

"Well, it is not as though your business is on the public market, so the terms of such an investment are not yet set. I am interested in knowing what sort of percentage growth such an investment might return." She spotted the waitress on her way over to take their orders Call me by my name, oh please Genghis just call me anything but that dreadful 'Miss'. She thought.

Genghis inclined his head, "Well, that of course depends on what aspects you invest in, what you back, Miss Amonasro." He wanted to use her name, but he still wasn't certain where they stood, and she'd left.

Something in her relaxed inside as he said her name, and she leaned forward. "Well, Mr. Selkirk," she began. How about after we order, you tell me where the business could best use investment, and I'll suggest my own terms." I miss you Genghis. She thought, I miss working with you. Helping you. Helping each other.

"I think that sounds like the best idea I've heard all day," he met her gaze. He still wasn't certain he was ready to forgive her or trust her again, but Cat he wanted to.

Once the waitress had come and taken their orders, Cassandra turned back to Genghis. "I suppose if we are to be in business together, I owe you an explanation." It was hard to look him in the eye so she forced herself to do it, her gaze both pleading and forceful.
