Kyera carefully navigated the streets of downtown Felidae, wringing the messily-folded newspaper in her paws. She really wanted to find someone to read the paper to her, but everyone seemed to be walking so quickly, too hurried to get to where they were going to be willing to stop and spend half an hour with her. She sighed as she paused and stood by a wall. She was never going to find anyone if she didn't pluck up the courage to just ask.

Walking down the street, Mistoffelees paused as he looked down at the list he was carrying. Well, he'd said he was opening the soup kitchen so he might as well actually get started on that, which was why he was going to stop by his accountant's and probably a few other offices that afternoon.

Kyera let out a breath as she noted someone's footsteps pause nearby. She put on her soft as she approached the cat, reaching out to tap its shoulder or arm. "Excuse me?" she asked. "Do you have a moment?"

Jumping at the unexpected touch, Mistoffelees turned. "Um, yes? Miss?" he asked, voice pitched a little high as he settled his nerves.

"Forgive me," Kyera said with a grin. "I didn't mean to scare you. I was just wondering if you'd be willing to read me some of this paper?" She held out the newspaper in her paws to show him.

"Read you the...?" Mistoffelees asked in confusion before getting a good look at her. "Oh. Right. I suppose I can manage a little bit of it. Any section in particular you want to look over? Hear, I mean?"

Kyera chuckled slightly as his self-correction, her relief evident on her face. "Mostly the headlines, really," she told him. "Get a feel of what's going on around here. I think there's a soda shop nearby we could..." She turned her head a little, listening to the sounds and smelling the scents nearby. It was then she realized she had absolutely no idea where she was, anymore. Oops...

"I think you have the wrong block," he said softly. "Um, there's a park over there if you want to sit down on a bench."

Oh, the park! Yes, she could certainly reorient herself in the park. "That's a better idea," she said with a grin. Instead of embarrassing herself again by going the wrong way, she decided to wait for him to lead the way there. At least until she could recognize her surroundings again. "After you."

He paused a moment before touching her arm lightly. "Would you like my arm, miss?" he asked, holding it out in the gentlemanly fashion so she could feel and thus find it.

She couldn't help her grin growing a little wider. How sweet was he? "Thank you," she said softly, easily finding and taking his arm. "Oh, I forgot to introduce myself," she realized as they walked. "I'm Kyera Ladaeux."

"Lovely to meet you, Miss Ladaeux. I'm Mistoffelees Quaxo," he said without quite thinking that through and then glancing down at the newspaper in his free paw. Maybe he shouldn't have mentioned his full name... It was close enough to the gala that it was probably mentioned somewhere in there.

"It's a pleasure to meet you," Kyera said happily. "It's not often one finds a tom nice enough to read the newspaper to a queen." Well, he had been the first one she asked, but for the sake of conversation...

He blinked once at that, realizing perhaps that alone made this a bad idea but he'd already agreed after all. "Well, I have a bit of free time," he murmured, sitting on the bench and pulling her down gently to let her know where it was.

Kyera let go of his arm as she sat on the bench, enjoying the sounds and smells of the lovely park a moment before returning her attention to Mistoffelees. "What's the top story?" she asked.
