He opened the newspaper, wincing slightly. "Shoot out down by the docks, several killed," he said, scanning the front page. "Also, several boot leggers are going on trial today, one of them having turned informant." Well, he wasn't going to survive the next few weeks.

Kyera blinked at the information. Well, that sounded just awful. Those poor cats. "Is there anything more on trial?" she asked.

Mistoffelees flipped through the paper. "A lawsuit on libel between two cats, looks like a fairly private matter. Some police officers up on corruption charges."

Kyera nodded slightly. Interesting. "Is there anything else going on?" she asked.

He flipped past the business section, noticing that things were mostly going well there. "There's an article on skiing, which is remaining popular," he replied. "Some fashion editorials and..." he paused, nearly choking. "An editorial on the gala hosted by Mistoffelees Quazo at the Palace. Tasteful and not as ostentatious or illegal as the uncle's business, we wait to see rather... oh you're kidding," he muttered, having started quoting without thinking about it.

Kyera tilted her head as Mistoffelees mentioned his own name. "What is it?" she asked with a grin. "Don't like what they're saying?"

"Not really," he replied, still reading it, silent now. "They even insulted my tie."

Kyera blinked. "Your tie? What would that have to do with anything?"

"That would be my question, but apparently it was not fashionable enough." He made an annoyed sound that expressed what he thought of that. He started quoting again, "A bland presentation made by the host somewhat made up for by his charm once his attention was turned toward you." Again he paused, sighing. "Fantastic."

Kyera bit her lip to hold back her chuckle. Cats and fashion. There were so many more important things to worry about. "At least they complimented your character?" she offered with a grin.

"Only if I was actually speaking to them," he replied. "If I was just seen from afar or not the current speaker apparently I was rather dull."

Kyera shrugged. "There are worse things," she said. "Besides, how often do you see any of those cats that perceive you as 'dull'?"

"More than I like," he replied, scowling at the article and flipping through the rest of the paper to see if there was anything else of note. "After all, I'd like to see them once in my life but more likely it will be every month or so. If not more."

Oh. "Well, if you see them that often, then they certainly know you better," Kyera deduced. "Whoever wrote the article obviously only met you once or twice. Their opinion is inconsequential."

He gave her a long look, feeling slightly like he was taking advantage of the fact he couldn't see him but somewhat stunned as well. "If only that was the case," he replied. "Public figure and all that. Their opinion is going to be the opinion of everycat passing me on the street. If I try to complete any sort of project, the cats I'm dealing with are going to have all sorts of notions about me they get from things like this."
