It was early in the morning when Macavity strolled into the hospital. While there was never any guarantee that the hospital would be any less busy at this time due to night gang attacks, it was a quiet morning.
He rapped his knuckles against the door into Cohen's office, settling back on his heels to wait.

Cohen looked up from the patient charts he was going over, "Come in."

"Hello there, Zachariah," Macavity said, closing the door behind him before using that name.

The doctor set the charts aside, his gaze flickering quickly over the red tabby, checking for any visible blood. He breathed a soft sigh when he didn't see any, but that didn't mean much, "Macavity, it is good to see you. What is wrong?"

That got a smile out of Macavity as he sat down. "I'm not injured, if that's what you're thinkin'. Why do you think I'm always injured anyway?"

"Because, my friend, when I see you or hear from you often it is you or someone close to you who is," Cohen answered with a slight smile.

"Well, no one's bleedin' today," Macavity replied. "You busy?"

The doctor shook his head, "I do not being my rounds for another thirty minutes or so. What brings you by?"

Macavity got out his lighter, not daring to smoke at the moment, but snapping it open and shut a few times, giving himself something to hold and turn over. How exactly to say, I don't know who else to turn to? "Some stuff's been comin' up," he said finally.

Cohen considered him, eying the lighter for a moment, "Do you want to talk about it?"

"Workin' on gettin' there," he replied. "Just... I never really told you about my father, right?"

"Not since you brought your brother to me years ago, and even then only enough to tell me he had done that," Cohen replied.

"My excuses weren't the more effective," Macavity shrugged. "Well, they worked on everyone who didn't want to know." He flicked the lighter again and turned it off after a moment of watching it. "He's dead now though."

The Russian Blue nodded, "I did see that obituary in the paper."

"But you, unlike most, have some inklin' of what happened," Macavity continued and realized this was sounding more and more surreal. "So, you have some idea what I might associate fathers with." He paused again. "I'm goin' ta be a father."
