Munkustrap considered his room in the upstairs of the house. It had been Macavity's room until the eldest brother had moved out, and Munkus still hadn't changed much from that point. He carefully placed his things in a pair of suitcases and a single box, shaking his head at how little space an entire life actually filled.
His ears flickered as he thought he heard the front door close. Years of living in this house had made him paranoid about that sound and he looked up, considering closing his bedroom door, though knowing he was being ridiculous. He returned his attention to putting what few mementos he was taking with him into the box. He'd brought anything he wanted up from downstairs and what little it was was spread across the bed.

Tugger stepped through the door of the house, his newly pressed beat uniform held under one arm in a wrap of brown paper. "Munkus!" He called. "You home?"

The tabby didn't look up this time, continuing with what he was working on as he called back down, "Upstairs, Tugger."

Tugger walked upstairs, following Munkus' voice. He entered one of the rooms to find Munkus...standing over an old cardboard box with things inside. "Hey," he offered, unable to take his eyes off the box.

Munkustrap looked up finally as he turned to his dresser, pulling out some of his shirts and putting them in one of the suitcases he'd had stashed away since his return from college, "How was your day?"

"It was fine, took my new uniform to get pressed. It's all pretty and blue an' such." He eyed the box. "So...you're leavin'?"

The tabby turned from the suitcases to look at his younger brother, "I figure you're all grown up, you've got a legitimate job and everything. It's time for me to get a place of my own and start looking toward my future."

"Yeah...makes sense. I mean...I'm just surprised, is all." He offered a weak smile. "Everythin's so weird. I guess my world was never supposed to be anything but topsy-turvy."

Munkus offered him a faint smile as he turned back to his packing. "The house is yours if you want it. Sell it, rent it, burn it for all I care. The mortgage is paid and all the bills are up to date for this month."

"Lots of painful memories in this house..."
He smiled, weakly. "But not many get to start out in the world with an empty house free of rent or mortgage. I'm thinkin' I'll fix it up. Make it a place for a family."

Munkus offered him another flickering smile, grateful for the lack of mention of his own scars. He still wasn't willing to discuss them with anycat. "A new coat of paint and plaster will take care of the walls, re-floor the upstairs, re-door the rooms. And burn that damn chair. You'll be set, just need furnishings which can come as they come." He paused for a moment, closing the first suitcase, "Avoid a mortgage if you can. And don't ever get into debt with somecat." He hoped his brother had picked that up, but one never knew what actually got through to the younger tom.

"Sounds like the best sort of plan." He looked his brother over. "And...y'know, take care of yourself. Try not to end up on the tale end of a bad lawyer joke, 'kay?"

Munkus managed a grin at that, "I'll do my best. Figure with the rent on the apartment and grocery costs for one cat, I can easily get a bit put away for a reasonable life. Good luck, Tugger." He just had to deal with some furniture for his apartment, but that would come later. For now what he had and a mattress would do. He'd look into furnishing things after the next payday and the bills were paid, as always.

Tugger nodded. "Good luck to you, too." He frowned a little. "But it's not like we're sayin' goodbye forever..."

"Cat, no. I'll be around town, and we'll certainly see each other. Just won't be as often."
