Clara stepped up the gangplank to the boat, cigarette clenched between her teeth. That had not been something she had wanted to see on the way to work--a group of police clustered around a murder. A pretty gruesome one at that. She nodded to another cat passing her in one of the hallways, before knocking on Genghis' door.

The elegant chocolate point looked up from his desk where he'd been number crunching, preferring to double check the work his accountants did on certain areas himself. He closed the file and put it to one side, before calling out, "Come in." he rested his ebows on the desk, chin supported by his paws.

Clara pushed the door open, cigarette in her other paw. "Did you see the mess on the way here yet?" she asked, stepping inside and closing the door.

Genghis raised an eyebrow at her. He'd been working late last night and had wanted to ovesee a delivery in person due in half an hour or so, so he'd slept in his quarters on the Rose rather than bother to go home. "Supposing I haven't. Would you care to fill me in on the details?"

She inclined her head, taking a drag. "Murder, no more than two blocks from here. Looked like a priest cut up with a very large knife. The coppers are swarming over the entire area now. Gnats that they are."

Genghis took in the information, quickly assessing if the police were going to be a hinderance to his own plans for the morning. Well it was too late to cancel the delivery now, the ship was due in port in thirty minutes. He'd just have to hope the police remained distracted by the murder scene to be worried about anything else. All the same, it wouldn't hurt to get the cargo out of public view as quickly as possible.
"As soon as you're done here, can you find Hendric at the second cargo mooring and ask him to pick up some casual labour to get our upcoming delivery shifted. Ideally double what we've got now, but I'll take what we can get. I intend to be down there myself by the time she gets in, but I want that labour on hand."
He'd worry about the murder in a moment, better to ensure his own interests were protected first.

Clara nodded. "I'll get on that as soon as I leave," she replied. "And while I'm pretty sure I'm not your sectary, you do remember the invitation for lunch, don't you?" She held the slip of paper up. "Not sure how I ended up with it."

Genghis frowned, "Neither am I. Clearly I should keep a closer check on my social correspondence in the future." He held out a paw for the letter. "But if we might return to this murder for a moment. No recognisable style to it that you happened to notice or overhear?"

Clara let the invite go. "It was done with a knife. Segregated edges were mentioned, not straight razors." She paused, considering. "The police think it was a different murderer from the one that had been running around earlier."

"Well so long as neither of them were warnings directed at us. Though keep an eye on things if you're able, I'd prefer to know if there is a killer running amok around here. I'd prefer not to loose anyone needlessly." he considered for a moment longer, "Might be worth speaking to Walker and seeing what he knows."
((Walker is whoever is in Genghis's pay at Felidae PD, yay for making up random hench names!))

Clara nodded. "I'll see if I can set up a meet with him at a cafe in the next few days. As for warnings, unless that was your priest, I'm pretty sure it's not directed at us. And we weren't connected with either of the toms from earlier either, so far as I know," she replied.

"Good." Genghis considered for a moment, "does seem a rather odd target. At least you know where you are with gang killings. If we need to up security we will." he was considering the matter closed for the time being though, already reaching for the invitation he'd put to one side, and re-reading it.

Clara nodded again. "Odd target, but he was stupid enough to be preaching around the docks at ungodly hours." She leaned back against the wall, taking another drag of the cigarette, glancing at it in distaste when she realized it was about ready to burn out. She watched him silently for the time being.

Genghis nodded absently, taking a small diary from an inside pocket he opened it at the marker and flicked ahead a couple of pages. "Since you seem to be playing secretary at the moment, don't book me anything on the fifteenth, I might as well find out what Hollister is after."

She arched an eyebrow at that but nodded. "I'll be sure not to. Perhaps that's the day I'll see about getting Walker into a meeting."
