“Who around here is the best at information?” Macavity had asked, and it seemed innocent enough if it wasn’t for the fact he needed someone to replace old Timmy in the gang. And gang work was never really innocent. Nor was spying as far as he knew.
One of the cats tilted his head, considering and motioned with his tankard. “Try Martin Smith. Grey thing, wears glasses, British so far as I can tell. Has a shack down by the docks, but supposed to be damn good.”

Coricopat looked up from where he was leaning against a wall, sharpening his claws--it was becoming a bit of a habit. His gaze flickered to Macavity, not entirely sure he thought it was a good idea to go with a cat that really they only knew hearsay about.

Macavity glanced back at him, put some money on the bar though he hadn't gotten any drinks, and nodded to Cori on the way out, figuring the other would follow him.

Cor paid for his one drink and then followed Macavity out. He glanced around and located the other cat, falling into step with him, "You sure this is a good idea?"

Macavity shrugged, managing not to dig out his cigarettes though around any other cat he already would've. "No idea. But it's worth a try anyway. It's hard ta work with nocat on information, especially now."

The mottled tom sighed slightly, nodding, "True enough. We heading down there tonight?"

Macavity shot him a look and grinned. "The night's still youn' Cor, what else would we do with the rest of it?"

Coricopat shrugged slightly, "Sleep maybe?"

Grinning wider, Macavity shook his head. "Please, sleep is for the weak and the cats with nothin' better ta do. We have plenty still, and it's barely even dark yet. Where's your sense of stamina?"

"It's gone from trying to keep up with you. But I suppose one meeting can't hurt."

Grin still in place, Macavity weaved his way to the address given, pounding on the door.
Glasses slightly askew Martin was all but growling by the time he answered the door. "You'd better not be back for..." he started, finally taking in the two toms standing there. His posture became even more defensive, and he crossed his arms over his chest, half hiding his paws that had a few ink stains on them. "Yes?" he asked. "I've not seen you two before. What do you want?"

Coricopat's gaze swept over the other cat, taking in the details of the ink stains and the scattered look presented due to the crooked glasses. He considered, and decided to let Macavity answer that particular question while he took his time to figure out what he could about the cat before them.

Macavity blinked, looking the other over. "Need somecat ta fill a certain position. Had you recommended."
At that, Martin straightened somewhat, becoming slightly less defensive and adjusting his glasses. "At this time of night? It hardly seems like you'd be coming to me for any matters legal..."
Macavity shrugged. "If the hours are a problem, then you've already answered the question..."
Martin's spine straightened and he seemed to dislike that idea strongly. "Ah... no, that's hardly what I meant."

Cor suppressed a smirk at that, "If you have the time now, of course, Mr. Smith."

Martin's eyes moved over to Coricopat, and he considered the mottled tom a long moment. "Now should do," he said finally. "Mr...?"
