Misto had gotten home a couple hours ago and gone straight into his little bedroom, locking the door behind him. He slid down the back wall, sitting himself in the far corner from the door, and pulled his knees up to his chest. He hadn't turned the light on though it had long ago gotten dark. A while ago he had heard Cori come home, but he wasn't sure how long it had been.

Coricopat had entered the house about an hour ago. He knew Mistoffelees was home, but was surprised that the door to the other cat's room was closed. He considered checking on him, but opted not to for the time being. If he didn't hear anything from the other before he retired for the night he'd check. He glanced over the afternoon paper again, shaking his head. An entire family...

This day was always bad enough as it was, Misto thought, and could feel himself shaking a little, his mind running around in circles. It was bad enough, remember his dead parents. To know that his uncle--his crazy uncle who he never liked, and always had seemed so disappointed in him--had been responsible though? He had woken up feeling terrible as it was... he hadn't even told Coricopat what day it was. He drew out his pocket watch and held it in his paws. It was the only thing he had of his father.

After another thirty minutes of a complete inability to concentrate on anything Coricopat finally gave in and went and knocked on Misto's door.

Misto started at the sound, and shrank back even farther in his corner. Eying the door as if it was going to attack him, he didn't respond.

Coricopat tapped lightly on the door again before trying the handle, frowning when he found it locked. "Mistoffelees?"

His tail swished on the ground to the side of him. "What?" he said, his voice rasping and barely above a whisper. He wasn't sure Coricopat had heard, but he didn't repeat it.

The lawyer considered whether or not picking the lock was a good idea. "Do you mind opening the door?"

Misto shook his head and realized the other couldn't see him. "Go away," he muttered finally.

Like hell he was going to do that. "What's bothering you?"

Misto curled even further up on himself. "Go away," he said again, slightly stronger this time.

"That's not going to happen." He sighed, "I put it to you again, are you unlocking the door, or do I have to do so myself?"

Mistoffelees growled, long and low, but clearly audible through the door. "I don't want to talk."

Cori's ears flickered back a bit, but he pressed on, "That wasn't the question."

A deeper growl was his answer. Misto could feel himself get angry, and vaguely realized he shouldn't be angery at Coricopat--he really shouldn't be angry at Coricopat--but he wanted to be angry at someone. He'd felt numb the whole day since that damn desk clerk had waved him over and tore down the last illusion he held about his family.
