Victoria's crutches leaned against the wall, the tops wrapped in clean white fabric to provide some extra padding. With an admonishment from her mother not to overdo it and Mr. Seidensticker bringing her foot high piles of files to organize, she hadn't gotten up from her desk since she had arrived.
Mr. Seidensticker was in his office, but sounded like he was on the phone with someone. Alone with the papers Victoria was relaxed, tail hanging lazily through the hole in the chair. Ears at ease, flicking to footsteps in the hall and Mr. Seidensticker's voice with no real interest.

Coricopat checked the name on the office, nodding, yes this was the right law office for that case he was trying to find back files on. He entered, glancing around and pausing when he saw the young white queen at the desk.

Victoria looked up. Oh goodness. It's him. She thought, swallowing hard. "Hello Sir" she stuttered only a little, and tried to smile. A small forced thing it was, but there. Certainly an improvement. "Can I help you with something?"

He paused for a moment before nodding, "Yes, I was hoping I could look over the files for Johnston vs. Miller. It would have been from the Summer of 1923." After another hesitation Coricopat finally asked, "How are you healing?"
((That's the same file Munkus asked for, so they may or may not have it back by this point.))

She hadn't managed to put together the words to answer his first question before he asked the second.
"Me? I- well I- I'm doing well enough. I mean-" She froze and shut her eyes for a moment. The file. She could find the file. That's something she knew how to do. "Johnston vs. Miller. 1923, I'll just go find that for you." She stood up and grabbed her crutches.

He watched her, half-inclined to withdraw his request, but didn't. He did need that file to see the sort of defense that worked the last time this sort of case had arisen.

She made her way to the back room and unerringly found the shelf. She surprised herself with how easily she found it, until it's absence reminded her of the Silver Tom who'd borrowed it a week ago. Usually she didn't call about checked out files until a month had passed. Cases took awhile and not all offices were as orderly aobut their filing as Mr. Seidensticker was.
Returning to the front room, she risked a glance at the Tom while she pulled the checkout file from her top drawer. "I'm sorry, it's actually on loan already."

He sighed, "Of course. You wouldn't happen to be able to tell me who by, would you?"

"Actually I have the records right here." She flipped open the file and after a brief wince at Mr. Seidensticker's messy notes, scanned down to the name. "A Mr. Munkustrap Hollister. We also have a phone number for his office if that would be helpful." Focusing on the job helped. Momentum helped. And remembering that the last time she met this Tom she'd also met Mistofolees again helped. She wasn't calm. Her tail still twitched and her ears were still flickering, but she'd lost the stutter.

He sighed, he should have known Hollister would think of it. "No, I know where his office is, thank you." Especially since that was the defense attorney he was facing. He glanced over her. "Is everything alright, Miss?"

She nodded quickly and then, after counting to three in her head looked up. "I'm fine sir. Is there anything else I can help you with?"

Coricopat looked her over for a long moment, "Miss, if I may be blunt?"

"You may." The words dwarfed her voice. Confusion reigned in her eyes.

"You're not alright, you're still injured, and frankly I wonder that you're even back at work already." He replied, glancing toward the main office of the small firm.

"Oh no sir. Really, I- I'm doing better." It took no little emotional effort to contradict him. She couldn't tell him that they needed the money, though it was true. "It wasn't even that bad a break. I- I've been off it since- since that day." Her tail had stilled and her ears were flat and sideways.
