Corciopat considered her for a long moment. There was something going unsaid. He searched his memory for why her name seemed familiar. Oh, that lawyer's suicide from a couple of hears before. He tried to recall if the cat had a daughter, but couldn't. Either way though, "Before I forget I did want to let you know that the bill's been taken care of--assuming Cohen hasn't already told you."

"What? No He- He didn't. I haven't been back since -since that day." Her heartbeat had slowed and she thought of the classified ads tucked away in the pocket of her coat.

Coricopat nodded slightly, "He and I spoke and determined that since I was at fault for the accident we'd see what could be done about the bill." More like he informed me I was paying it.

"Oh. Thank you sir." Relief overwhelmed her fears and she rested her forehead in one hand. Her ears came to a relaxed forward position and her shoulders loosened.

Coricopat arched an eyebrow at that reaction and then nodded. "Of course."

She gathered herself for a moment, before straightening and nervously smoothing the side of her headfur back towards her bun. "Is there anything else I can help you with, Mr. Zimmerman?" The smile she gave him was much stronger now.

He shook his head, "Not that I can think of. Thank you, Miss." He inclined his head to her before heading for the door.

Victoria watched him go. "Good Afternoon, Sir." The news had considerably eased her.

Coricopat nodded once more before slipping out. Damn it, of course Hollister had the files he needed, and he could be certain that the other lawyer wouldn't give them up.

Victoria took a few moments to rest her head and gather her thoughts. She suspected that when she got home and told her mother that one or both of them might cry. For now though, she needed to pull herself together and finish this day of work.
