She paused for a long moment before looking over. "I would like to remember what the world was like before war tore it apart," she said softly, and nearly winced backward once she realized she'd spoke that aloud. Instead she remained completely upright, spine rigid, and looked at him.

He considered that for a long moment and then nodded. "Makes sense."

Clara blinked at him and glanced away after another moment. "I'm sorry," she mumbled. "It's hardly a happy topic."

He shrugged. "Life in general ain't a happy topic, so conversation sure as hell doesn' need t' be."

Her head turned back to look at him for a long moment. "Perhaps not," she murmured. One ear flickered as the song changed again and she stood, holding at a paw in a silent question.

She allowed him to lead again, one ear still flickering. She honestly wasn't sure what she was doing, but she enjoyed these dances far more than she had ever given them credit for.

He guided her through the steps, feeling at his ease on the dancefloor. It was nice to have a partner who could dance and knew how to follow the cues given.

At her stiffening he hesitated, not enough to trip them up, but enough to be almost noticeable. He glanced down at her, registering her proximity and after a couple of more basic steps in closed position, lead her through another set of turns, ending them in open position.

She let out a slow breath. "I didn't mind," she murmured. "Just surprised me was all..." Perhaps a bit of a lie, but a bit of truth too.

He offered her a bit of a smile at that. "Good t' know. This song's better suited t' more motion than that allows though."

She offered him a flickering smile. "True," she murmured.
