"Well, there isn't any chance of reasoning with him now. What were you thinking confronting him like that?"

Tantomile's ears flattened somewhat, hurt at her brother's reprimand. "I don't know, I couldn't just say nothing."

"But you couldn't have waited?"

"Well it hardly matters if I could have now. I didn't." Tantomile replied, "No, maybe if I'd stopped to think I'd have realised it's was a bad idea, but I didn't." she shook her head at her brother, "I'm sorry if I spoiled things, I really am, but what's said is said."

He nodded slightly. "Yeah, I guess so."

"You don't have to worry about it anyway, you still get to go." there was a hint of bitterness in Tantomile's tone.

Cori's ears lay back at that. "Which isn't my fault."

"I never said it was Cori. And I don't begrudge you it. Better one of us still gets to go than neither. But I think I'm entitled to be upset, I've just had my entire furture snatched away from me. What have I got to look forward to now?"
Perhaps that was a little over dramatic, but Tantomile was starting to feel distinctly outnumbered, even by her brother, just the tiniest bit.

His ears went back. "It didn't completely destroy your future, Tant. Let him calm down and see about it in a few years. You're over-reacting."

"I thought you'd told me I already burned my bridges there at dinner." Tantomile replied, not feeling much like she wanted to be consoled, nor taking kindly to being told she was overreacting, probably because she knew he was right.

"You probably have. That doesn't mean you shouldn't and can't try."

"Raise my hopes just to have them squashed again?" Tantomile remarked dryly, though that didn't mean she wouldn't try. She was willing to fight for this and then some, but unlike her brother, she always faced her battles head on, which was why she hadn't been able to keep her mouth shut at dinner.

He scowled at that. "That isn't how I meant it and you know it."

"I know," she remarked, just a touch flippantly, "but that doesn't mean it's not a likely outcome."

He suppressed a growl, but rose. "Fine, you've got a point."
