Genghis nodded, understanding far better than he war prepared to let on, he laughed softly, genuinely amused, "I shall bear that in mind if I ever find myself in need of one."

Mac grinned at him. "And it's such an easy password ta remember ta..."

"Indeed," the chocolate point tom's mirth was evident, "however, speaking more conventionally, what do you reccomend from the menu? I'm especially torn between the crab cakes and the soup to start."

"I would say try the crab cakes," Mac replied. "Beyond that possibly the beefsteak. The new cook seems ta be rather good at that dish."

"The crab cakes it is then," Genghis decided, "because I confess I've always been partial to them, but I shall make a point of sampling the beefsteak should I dine here again."

Mac nodded, signaling one of the waiters over to take their orders.

Genghis ordered his crab cakes and a chicken dish for his main, interested, after their conversation to see just what Macavity chose.

Mac ordered a hot turkey sandwich with a light soup. He glanced back at Gilbert when the waiter left. "Well then," he said.

"Well then," Genghis agreed, surveying the other across the table, "now we have the essentials out of the way, perhaps I could ask if there was a specific reason you extended this invitation?"

Mac rolled a shoulder, flicking some ash from his cigarette into the tray on the table. "Specifically? No. But we are both cats of business, and it seemed possible that someday such a thing might overlap. I find the idea of buildin' up relationships to hardly be a bad thin'."

The Siamese tom nodded, "I'm actually rather relieved to hear that. If you'll forgive me, I'm sure you can understand, often when I get an invitation of this kind it's a business proposal, or worse, some fatcat thinking he can have something for nothing by a little sucking up."

His mouth twisting slightly, Mac nodded, taking another drag. "Rather. Though as you should be able ta guess from my hotel, I don't often ask for somethin' for nothin'. I built this from the 'round up and would only expect the same from others. No, this is just a friendly lunch. If business comes up? It comes up. If it comes up later? It comes up later."

"A self-made tom then." Genghis remarked, "I'm incredibly impressed Mr Hollister, you are the kind of cat I have a good deal of respect for. I wish I could more accurately say the same for myself. Though my own business certainly wasn't built on idleness."

Macavity actually smiled slowly at that. "Thank you indeed then." Self made was putting it rather lightly. More like self clawed up from a wreck of a house to built his own castle. "And it is hard ta built any business on idleness." Though, entirely possible as Jones tended to show.

Not surprisingly, Genghis had the same cat in his mind, "Sadly you'd be amazed what some individuals can achieve by throwing a lot of money at things. But whilst I have perhaps had fortune on my side, I certainly believe in the value of hard work, it pays dividends on every level."
