Sonya leaned back and considered. "Well," he said finally. "Would you like to come into my office? I am rather curious to hear about him." He paused. "And you may have a cup of coffee if you would like."

Tugger was slightly alarmed by that, despite his current displeasure with his brother, he wasn't about to drop Macavity in it out of spite, blood was still thicker, despite everything. However, after what Sonya had said about witholding information, he got the feeling that refusing the Commissoner's offer would likely just make the other more suspicious.
Eventually, he nodded, "I guess I could do that. Though I don't see what's so special about him." there was a bitter edge to his tone again.

Sonya shrugged as he held the door open. "Perhaps nothing. I would just like a clearer picture."

Tugger scowled as he followed Sonya into the office, "What's to tell? He's my bloody condescending big brother." he'd already forgotten Munkustrap's referral of Macavity as a distant relation.

Sonya raised his eyebrows at that. "Ah," he said, making a mental note of the differing stories. Already, he had found something out. Now, to figure out if it was useful or not. "And yet he came to bail you out of jail, did he not?"

Tugger snorted, "Ain't exactly a problem for him, money's not much of an object. An' I would thank him, if he an' 'Straps didn't make it their business to tell me how damn stupid I was." a pause "As if I couldn't work it out f'myslef that I'd screwed up, even if it was an accident." Tugger's tone was still angry, but in these last words, his hurt was evident.

Sonya nodded, feeling strangely sympathetic. "So, he runs a hotel right? If you're down on your luck working at the docks, why doesn't he offer you a job?"

Another snort, "Please, neither of them think I'm capeable of dressing myself, as if he'd trust me with somethin' like that. Besides, y'think I wanna live on handouts from my brother, I got my pride as well." He might have said something different a week or so ago, but right now there was no way Tugger would be accepting anything from either of his brothers.

Sonya inclined his head at that. "Ah, yes." The other was giving him a lot to think about.

Tugger shrugged, "You're hittin' a sore point with me t'be honest. Especially after last night, they both still think I'm five years old and need constantly watching! My eldest brother owns his own business, an' the other went t'law school. Then there's me." he added flatly, "I ain't got a hope in hell of livin' up to that, an they know it."

Sonya watched him, leaning back in his chair. The only reason he did not put his feet up on the desk was because it was covered with paperwork. "You know," he said, considering the idea. "If you feel the need to prove them wrong, we always need more police officers. The program is free here, as long as you make a commitment to it, so you wouldn't need the money. Perhaps just something to consider."

Tugger started at that, initially surprised by the offer, and then wondering if Sonya was mocking him, or worse, pitying him. "Thanks but no thanks," the reply was a little gruff, "be realistic, you can't honestly think I'd be any good at this." he got to his feet, "I'm sure you meant well, but when I need help, I'll ask for it. If you don't mind, I'd rather like to get what I came for."

Sonya shrugged one shoulder, looking up at the other but not standing. "Alright," he said. "Honestly, with some training, I don't think you would be half bad at this. Probably even good. But I understand that the suggestion may have seemed odd. I hope you have a good day then," he continued evenly, not taking his eyes off the other tom's face.

Tugger was somewhat abashed by this, thinking perhaps he'd been a little out of turn, morso than he would have done if Sonya had taken offence at his response. He paused, running a paw through his headfur, "I didn't mean t'sound ungrateful, I'm just a little touchy about takin' favours at the moment. Kind of need t'prove I could do somethin' without the help of someone better than me."

"Of course," Sonya said. "But I wasn't offering you help, just a suggestion. If you decided to do it, it would be hard, and I would not be offering you extra help. You would have to do it yourself."
