Munkustrap opened the door to the house quietly, catching the grocery bag before it fell from where he'd rested it between his shoulder and the door while getting the door open. He made his way softly to the kitchen, it was after seven and he should have been home ages ago. He'd stopped to pick up some groceries and had gotten to talking. Between that and the bus driver for the bus he'd finally caught being new to the route it had taken ages to get home. He sighed quietly, setting the two bags of groceries on the table and dropping his briefcase on one of the chairs before shrugging out of his overcoat.

Tugger had been upstairs, but he came out of his room at the sound of the front door, coming down once he has acsetained that it was Munkustrap getting in and not his father. He padded into the kitchen as his brother was putting the bags down, going to fill the kettle with the intention of making a pot of coffee.
"Evenin' Munk." there was a very slight edge to his tone, he couldn't help it. He'd told himself he was above such pettyness, but after making the effort to be back at the house when he said he would, it irritated him that Munkustrap didn't seem to have bothered to keep his own word.

Munkus looked up, his ears flickering at his brother's tone, as he started putting the groceries away. "Evening, Tug."

Tugger filled the kettle in silence and set it on the stove. Waving his paw over the ring to check for the heat before he did so, it had been getting more an more unreliable of late.
He didn't look at his brother, though the occasional swish of his tail betrayed a degree of irritation.

Munkus stepped past his brother, depositing the loaf of bread into the bread box. "What's wrong?"

"Nothin'," he replied, sounding just a little short, "did I say there was?"

The tabby's ears flickered back at that. "No...I don't suppose you did."

"Oh whilst I remember," Tugger drew his day's wages from his pocket and handed them to his brother. "I'm workin' again tomorrow so I'll be back around the same time tomorrow." Not that you'd notice anyway. "But I won't be around in the mornin', I got someplace to be."

Munkus nodded, setting the money in his briefcase. "All right." He paused for a moment. "How was your day?"

"Alright I guess. What about yours?" despite the fact he was answering normally, Tugger was still feeling a little cagey and it showed.

"Long. My meetings ran overtime and I missed my bus." Munkus spoke casually, but there was a slight defense of his tardiness in his tone as he finished putting the groceries away.

"Yeah," Tugger agreed, unable to resist commenting now his brother had brought up the topic, "you said you'd be in same time as me." he didn't exactly sound accusatory, just put out.

Ah, there it was. "Like I said, I missed the first bus and I still had to get groceries. By the time I was out of there the second one had gone too." Of course if I hadn't been visiting with my girlfriend I probably could have caught the second bus...

Tugger shrugged, "It's fine, doesn't matter." actually, it did, but there wasn't exactly anything he could do about it.

Munkus arched an eyebrow, skeptically. "Right..."
