Mac inclined his head, smirking. "But now you have the official invite. It's hardly like I had anythin' more enjoyable to do with my day."

"Anytime," he said, still smirking though it slipped slightly as his paw fiddled with the box in his pocket. "I would have brought you a new towel, but I forgot."

She laughed lightly at that. "It's not that great a loss. Just a towel."

She paused before reaching out to take the box, opening it carefully. Her green eyes widened. "Bastet...." Griddlebone looked at him, stunned for a moment. "I...I don't know if I can accept this."

Mac shrugged, not letting on how deeply uncomfortable he was at that moment. The hell had he been thinking? Even he knew this was far too forward. "It's a trinket and I don't have much use for it. Keep it anyway."

She bit her lip, blushing a little. "Thank you. It's...it's lovely." She resisted the urge to fiddle with the gold chain around her neck. "It will go well with the dress..."

He nodded, putting out the cigarette. "Oh good. I wasn't sure, but..." It seemed like something she would have liked.

She set the jewelry box down with the invitation, coming around the table to where he was. "I mean it. Thank you." The white queen hesitated for a brief moment before leaning down and kissing the flame-colored tabby.
