"They only bleedin' well suspected me in the first place bacause I was runnin'." Tugger's reply was sulky, "And yeah, though he was less interested in me and just wanted to know what I'd told the Commissioner about him when I went back the next day."

"I did." Tugger replied shortly, "Far as I was able anyway, still felt like he blew me off. Tried to take the only bit of advice he gave me though. I've stuck with the job at least."

Tugger shrugged, "Wouldn't have you sayin' I wasn't payin' my way at long last. I know it ain't nothin' like you're earnin', or for doin' somethin' fancy like you or Mac, but it's money."

Munkus frowned again, resisting the urge to growl again, instead pushing past his brother on the way up the stairs. "Still."

Not even sure what he was doing, Tugger caught his brother's arm as Munkustrap went to pass him. "Still what?"

Munkus pulled his arm forcefully from his brother's grasp. "Still, you're doing well." He all but snapped. The idea that Tugger was so sure that the tabby thought he couldn't do anything right irked him to no end.

Tugger actually took a step back from Munkustrap at that, slightly startled by the irritation in his normally patient brother. "Jeez, okay." a pause, "Look, I'll get back on top of stuff with the business, with everythin' else I totally forgot about tonight. I'll do my best to make sure it don't happen again."

Tugger's ears flicked back slightly, tail coming to curl around his leg, he was tired as well, enough that he was unlikely to take further offence at anything his brother said or did that night, but he was visibly drooping, feeling slightly ashamed now the anger had left him. He'd always enjoyed the role he'd taken in their enterprise, perhaps even relished it, he didn't like knowing he'd screwed up something that was actually a bit important to him, something he felt Munkustrap actually trusted him with, or had done.
"I..." Tugger fell silent again, "Just let me know when you need me next."

"Will do." Munk glanced toward his room. "Now, if you don't mind I think I'm going to head to bed.." He really couldn't deal with this any more tonight.

Tugger nodded, "Guess I should do the same, work tomorrow an' everythin'." a pause, "I should be back by half six at the latest, I'm out before Milady opens for the evenin. Got no plans to go out anywhere else." he said all of this quietly, hoping his brother would see that he was trying.
