Munkustrap sat at the kitchen table. His father had come home several hours before and passed out in his room. Once assured of that fact the silver tabby had emerged from his own room upstairs and come down to wait for his younger brother. The money that had been left out had been helping, but they needed to talk. Tugger had missed a meeting today with a potential customer and they really couldn't afford those sorts of mistakes. The tabby leaned back in his chair, reading through a worn copy of David Copperfield while he waited.

Tugger unlocked the front door, trying to be quiet. Unfortunately, his couple of drinks at the Chrysalis, whilst he wasn't drunk, did mean he wasn't as co-ordinated or quiet as he thought he was being. He swore as the door clunked closed behind him a lot louder than he'd intended.

Munkus rose from his seat at the kitchen table, stepping over to stand in the doorway between the kitchen and living room. "Good evening, Tugger."

Damn Tugger stiffened slightly as his brother addressed him, there was that look in Munkustrap's eye and edge to his tone that suggested this was more than just a greeting. "Evenin'." Tugger replied shortly, he skirted away from the kitchen doorway and made straight for the stairs.

"You forget something this evening?" He kept his voice lowered but audible. If he had to follow his brother upstairs he would, but it would be simpler if he didn't.

Tugger decided it was safer to keep heading for the stairs, "Dunno what you're talking about, it's gettin' late an' I'm headin' to bed."

The silver tabby pursued his younger brother. "We were supposed to meet with potential customers tonight."

Tugger's ears flicked slightly at this and he paused near the top of the stairs, though his stance was still non-commital, it took him a moment to process what Munkustrap meant, then he shrugged, turning away from his brother, "I'm sure you prob'ly got on far better without havin' to concern yourself with me anyway."

Munkustrap's blue eyes narrowed at that. "What the hell is with you?"

Another shrug, "You tell me, I jus' want to go to bed."

Munkus growled. "You think you can avoid me for the last several days, miss a meeting that we've had scheduled for a while now, and I'm going to just leave it alone?"

"Obviously not." Tugger glared at Munkustrap, "But it was nice whilst it lasted."

"What is going on?" Munkus frowned.

"Like I said, you tell me." Tugger did not want to have this conversation, it was really too late to avoid it now but that didn't mean he had to make it easier for his brother to berate him.

The tabby growled again. "This is ridiculous, Tugger. You've been avoiding me for days. What is going on in that head of yours?"
