That both stung and comforted at the same time, Tugger pulled a face, but he couldn't get angry at Griddlebone like he could with his brothers, "Thanks, I think."
There was a long pause whilst Tugger pondered for a moment before adding, "So how much of that conversation did you overhear?" there was nothing accusatory in his tone, only curiosity.

"Bits and pieces, but I've been in and out, so nothing much. Why do you ask?"

Just wondered if you heard what I told him about what the comissioner said," Tugger admitted, "about getting a job..."

"Yeah I did. I think its certainly something you could consider." She shrugged slightly. "But in the end it's up to you."

"Really?" Tugger couldn't help himself, "Y'think it's something I'm capeable of?" a pause "But d'you agree with why Mac said it would be a bad idea?"

"I think y' capable of whatever you put your mind to. It might not be the best idea if you're working on the other side of the law, after all there's a bit of a conflict of interests. But it is something to consider." Griddlebone replied, glancing around to make sure no cat was trying to get her attention.

Tugger nodded, a little reluctantly, "You're right, an' I probably won't take him up on it f'that reason. But it would have been good t'use it t'thumb my nose at Mac an' Munk, y'know."

She chuckled. "It's never a good reason to take up a job. You'll find something."

"Well I don't know that needin' the money is any better an idea." Tugger reasoned, "but it don't matter what I do anyway, they'll always see me as their kid brother who needs lookin' out for because he's two useless t'take care of himself without gettin' in trouble." Tugger's tone had started off as resigned, but grew bitter as he continued.

She found a rag and began wiping down that part of the bar while she spoke. "If you're the youngest I doubt it's cause they think you're too stupid, possilbe they just see you as the kid brother. After all, how long have they been looking out for you?"

Tugger arched an eyebrow at Griddlebone, "I said useless, not stupid, but I'm pretty certain they think I'm both. If not they just have the long suffering older brother act down to a fine art, because they sure as hell act like they think I can't be trusted t'look out for myself."

Milady bit her lower lip. "My apologies. But again, if they've been watching out for you your whole life then it's a long time habit and it's easier for them to do so than to not." She shrugged. "I may be completely off with that guess, but it's a possibility anyhow."

Tugger shrugged, "Mac I can understand more, he did look out f'me when I was still a kit, though he'd probably never admit it. But Munk acts like my bleedin' mother and he wasn't there f'a lot of when I was growin' up."

"Have you tried actually talking to them regarding this?"

"Tugger snorted, "Well 'til last night I hadn't seen or heard from Mac in over a year. An' if I said somethin' t'Munk he'd probably say it's f'my own good!"
