Milady saw the grimace but didn't pursue it. "Born and raised here, dearie. Born and raised. What do you think of it?" Our fair cesspool she thought bitingly.

She was grateful that the queen didn't ask about why she grimaced. The only one who knew why was Flo. "It's different from the small town in the Midwest that I grew up in."

"Well, that's probably puttin' it kindly, but I can see how that would be the case." Grids smiled, but there was something mirthless about it this time.

She wondered what she meant. "What would you say about the city?"

"I'd say it's like a lot of cities. Looks real nice at first glance, but you start pulling back those layers and veils and you start to see what really goes on around here. It ain't pretty, but it is home."

Deme had seen first-hand how ugly it had been. She hadn't told anyone what had happened those four year ago. She bite her lip. "I've seen first-hand how ugly it is." She said this with bitterness but fearfulness as she got transported back to that day.

"You too, dearie?" Griddlebone looked the younger queen over and then glanced around, no other customers had come in since she'd entered. She motioned to the seat opposite her. "You able to sit down for a couple minutes?"

She sat down with a slightly haunted look on her face. "When I first got here, I...was raped. A group of toms grabbed me one night and pulled me into an alley and raped me and left me for dead." She paused. "Luckily I was found by a queen named Flo. She owned a house for young queens and looks after them. She got me this job, gave me a home, and looks after me." She had started to cry but about Flo she gave the other queen a watery smile.

Griddlebone offered her a sad smile in response, shaking her head a bit. "I'm sorry that was your introduction to Felidae. This city can be a real queen when you let it be, but other days it's an utter whore." She looked the other over again. "You haven't let it stop you, you're miles ahead of many in that case."

She gave Griddlebone a small smile. "I'm not sure about that. I'm still terrified of toms." She had to wonder why she was telling all this to a queen she didn't even know.

Milady nodded slightly. "It happens, but give it time. It is possible to pull through that."

She gave a real smile at that. But she was curious. "You say that like its from personal experience."

Griddlebone hesitated at that, her paw coming up to fiddle with the gold charm necklace around her throat. "That's because it is. Though not exactly your situation."

She looked down, "I didn't mean to pry."

The white queen shook her head. "It's not prying. YOu just followed a logical conversation path. I do it all the time. No, I...didn't know what I was getting into at the time, that's really all there is to it. I was stupidly naive."
