"You're lucky you get to do it half the year then," Tugger exhaled, watching the cloud of his breath dissipate towards the sky which was blue and crisp. Half the reason the day was so cold was the complete lack of cloud cover. There would likely be a heavy frost tonight. "half the dream is better than none, right?"

Misto gave him a long look and finally nodded. "Yeah." He glanced down at the deck he held and back up at Tugger. "What about you? I know you used to say you wanted to be able to preform too... albeit a very different kind of course, but what about doing that?"

Tugger shrugged, mildly surprised Mistoffelees had remembered something from so far back in their youth. "Still a pipe dream, I ain't going nowhere fast."

Misto glanced over at him. "You should try sometime," he suggested gently. "It would be good for you. Give you something to work for and towards."

Tugger growled slightly at those words, "You sound like 'Straps."

Misto's eyebrows shot up. "Okay, sorry, not what I meant." He held up both paws. "I just... if I can do it, you stand a good chance of doing what you want to. I'm not even talking about money, because *this* certainly does not pay well, just that... you should be able to do what you want to."

Tugger sighed, softening almost immidiately, "Sorry, he's got me a bit on edge is all. Always tellin' me I can 'better myself' y'know. Also, what don't pay is no good for me, it's not gonna get me out of that house."

Misto shrugged. "Yeah, I guess it's hard to balance those things." He was still feeling a bit miffed from when Tugger compared him to Munkustrap--everything he'd heard about the other cat made him dislike him.

Tugger picked up on the new coolness of his friend's tone, "Look, you're not like him, I'm just tired and ratty, and I guess sick of bein' told might be good for me."

"Yeah," Misto agreed. He leaned back against the bench, his tail swishing in the air behind him. "It's never fun being told what you can and can not do, and having your worth measured by other people, huh?"

Tugger nodded, "I had that my whole life, thought it would stop when I grew up, but so much for that. An' now I'm old enough to fight back in my own battles an' I'm still bein' told it's the wrong thing t'do." Tugger's is frustration from last night was coming out thick and fast now.

Misto blinked at him, considering that. "I guess... maybe sometimes it doesn't matter what other people say just... don't get yourself hurt, okay?"

Tugger rubbed the back of his head, "Can't avoid it if I'm gonna say somethin' Deuteronomy don't want to hear. Which, from me, is everything!"

"Yeah," Misto said. There was nothing he could say or do to make something like that better. He was not sure there was anyone in that family he liked aside from Tugger. "Still, be careful."

Tugger nodded, "Contrary to what 'Straps things, I'm not about to do anything that'll get me killed."
