Martin looked up from shuffling some papers to notice a brief confrontation between Macavity and Coricopat at the top of the stairs. His brows quirked up, and he readjusted his glasses before looking back down at some orders. He refused to let any other mistakes happen on his watch that day. Flickering his eyes back up, he saw the two part, and as Coricopat came down the stairs, mentally willed the other on without stopping.

Oh how Coricopat would have loved to have kept walking across the lobby and out the front door, but when Macavity told you to do something you did it. He strolled over to the front desk. "Macavity mentioned you have something to say in regards to the new Police Commissioner."

Martin felt his brows raise at that. Damnation. "Hm, yes," he said, glancing at his schedule book. Why Macavity hadn't told him himself, Martin did not know, nor was he willing to ask to find out. "There have been some rumors going around about him."

"There are always rumors when a new cat gets promoted. Specifics, Smith." Coricopat's tone was clipped.

Martin's eyes narrowed behind his glasses. "He has been seen coming out of the Palace, which is Bustopher Jones' place, the headquarters for his mini-empire. Less concretely, he has been seen hanging around the Docks, such as the Red Ribbon," Martin drawled slowly in response to Coricopat's clipped speech.

"Alright. Is that all?"

Martin's eyes narrowed farther. "Up to this point his reputation has remained spotless. It was the reason he was promoted over older men. Smearing it would be quite a feather in one's cap. But all there is so far are rumors. Find something, would you?" Martin would do it himself, but he had other people to investigate--like Coricopat Zimmerman.

Cori's eyes narrowed. "I'll be sure to let you know what I find out." He offered a smile which on most cats might come close to being cordial.

Martin's returning smile did not even attempt to be cordial. "Lovely," he said. "Well, I would not want to keep you from your..." he looked the other up and down. "Very important business."

"Nor I yours." Cori glanced at the papers in front of the desk clerk before offering him an inclination of the head that was a mocking bow before leaving.
((Exit Coricopat))

Martin watched him leave, eyes half lidded as he considered. He should not make his distaste of the other so obvious, but it was just too enjoyable, and he did need to take his kicks where he could get them.
