"I promise I won't actively try to scare him off. After all, he's your friend and I don't try to do so with them."

"Remind me what you call Jerrie again?" Mistoffelees returned.

"The Southerner. Or that damnable Southerner depending on my mood. But I've not scared him off," Coricopat pointed out.

"But that wasn't from a lack of trying," Mistoffelees said. "Or, rather, you would have liked to try and are both too stubborn for that to have been effective."

"Alright, you might have a point there," Mistoffelees managed. "Even if you had probably deserved it." He paused, turning his plate around rather than eating and considering the meal from a new angle. "So you won't try to scare this one away?"

Coricopat picked at his food for a moment before answering, "As long as he doesn't cause you any harm, you have my word that I won't scare him off."

"Good," Mistoffelees said, not willing to press the point. He very well knew Coricopat's general reaction to him getting hurt and even if he had extracted a further promise it would never have held. Rubbing at his eyes with one paw, he reconsidered the food in front of him, trying to work up the hunger to finish it.

"Apparently not," he sighed. "Which seems a shame considering the amount of food cooked.

"It's quite good," Coricopat murmured. "We could put it away and see if you want some later. There's no real tragedy to doing so."

Mistoffelees barely suppressed a sigh and nodded. "I suppose that's true, though I tend to think of eating as an example to you. I've just been so tired these last weeks food isn't holding much of an attraction either."

"I've been eating enough, I assure you. Have you, though? And if you're that tired...are you feeling alright?" Coricopat's tone took on a note of concern.

"Physically or emotionally?" Mistoffelees asked. "I just haven't been sleeping. The usual things really," he added, though he couldn't quite tell why his nightmare were increasing again.

Coricopat drew a deep breath, knowing the problems with what he was offering, "I can try to stay more than I do if you think it would help."
