Ricky grimaced, turning most of his attention to the apple pie, "Not like it woulda done me any good anyhow."

Instead of saying anything Sonya took a gulp of coffee and glanced over to Lou. "You would not happen to have any advice for dealing with kits, would you?"

The band leader chuckled, shaking his head, "You kiddin'? I haven't dealt with kits since I turned 18 and left home. Closest I've come is some twenty-somethings in the band from time to time."

"How are those new band members doing then?" Sonya asked.

"Well, so far they seem to be working out well. We've got a good fiddle player recently added on, though we've gone through probably three different pianists in as many months." Lou shook his head, "It's hard to find a good one in that respect."

"But a fiddle player that's stuck it out?" Sonya asked. "That's usually good, isn't it?"

Lou nodded, "It's very good. He's quiet, but he fits well enough with the other players."
Ricky looked between them, "You lead a band? Where?"
The brown tabby glanced at him, "Wherever we get work."

Sonya diplomatically decided not to mention he had long since figured out Lou worked at a speakeasy. It was hardly that hard to put the pieces together, but he certainly did not want to encourage Ricky to get into any more trouble than the kit naturally seemed to attract. He took a long sip from his coffee. "As long as everycat is fitting with every other cat."

Lou turned his attention back to the Commissioner, nodding, "Exactly. Honestly, if they don't work with the other cats there's really no future with the band. If we're going to play together we need to have a certain confidence in one another's abilities."

"How I wish I could make that a requirement for the police force," Sonya sighed, shaking his head slightly.

"You'd never find officers. It's difficult enough to put together a band under that condition."

"Must you crush my dreams so quickly?" Sonya rumbled. "I was enjoying that fantasy."

Lou offered him an apologetic smile, "Sorry, my friend. You would have had to face it when you returned to work."
"Which you could put off by letting me into the apartment," Ricky supplied, still taking his time with the apple pie.

Sonya gave his ward a long look. "Right," he managed, shaking his head. "And you will remember the key from now on, yes?"

The kit offered him a cheeky grin, "Of course. I usually do. Just had t' hurry this morning."
