Sonya let out a long sigh. "Of course you did. Can I have another cup of coffee or is this a demand to be taken home right this instant?"

"I might be bribeable," Ricky answered, wrinkling his nose. "'Sides, if I go home I haveta do math."
Lou chuckled, though his brow arched at the kit. He wasn't certain he'd met the kit before, "Not much for math then?"
"You ever met anyone as was?" came the answer.

"Dare I ask what this bribe entails?" Sonya sighed. "And I liked math."

The kit wrinkled his nose again, "Yeah, but you're you. This place serves apple pie or somethin' doesn't it?"

Sonya was no longer sure if he was suppressing a smile or a sigh. "Math is a perfectly valid subject to study. And yes, they have apple pie. The question is why you might be getting any?"

Ricky grinned, "So you don't haveta run home yet, and so I shut up."
Lou's brows rose slightly at that, and he glanced at Sonya, silently questioning who the hell the kit was.

"I thought I gave you spending money for that," Sonya remarked, glancing at Lou and suddenly remembering he was there and blinking, backtracking to see if Lou had ever heard about Ricky or not.

"But that ain't the point of a bribe," Ricky reminded. "Besides, I was hopin' to save part of that yet. Already spent some of it on bettering my mind with th' books in my bag."

"You did not happen to acquire any math books, did you?" Sonya asked, already signaling the waitress for two pieces of apple pie before glancing to Lou. "Would you like one as well?"

Lou shook his head, "Thank you, no. I'm fine with just my coffee." He glanced at Ricky, "I don't think I ever got you name."
"Ricky," the kit answered before turning back to Sonya. "Math is the antithesis of bettering my mind."

Sonya sighed. "Of course it is," he muttered before looking between the two. "Ricky," he added. "This is Lou Page. Try to be a decent cat to him."

The kit widened his eyes innocently, "I'm always a decent cat."
Lou chuckled, "It's good to meet you, Ricky." He glanced at Sonya, "How do the two of you know each other?"

Blinking once Sonya decided he needed more coffee. "He has been living with me these past several months."

Lou nodded slightly, "And how's that working out?"
"Well, I'm goin' to school everyday suddenly," Ricky muttered.

"As you should have been in the first place," Sonya replied blandly, accepting the slice of apple pie and coffee refill the waitress gave him, leaving a piece of pie for Ricky as well.
