"Y-yes. I handled all the paperwork for five lawyers." She was a little at war with herself over whether to accept if he offered a job. She sorely needed work, but she didn't want him offering if it was only out of pity. Then you'll just have to work hard enough to make it a good choice on his part instead of pity. The words sounded rather like something her father would say and she settled a little, her tail unwrapping itself from her ankle.

"Did I ever tell you I was homeless for a while?" Mistoffelees asked, dropping the fact down casually. "Got kicked out and everything. I have a job I believe you could do, and I would like to hire you for it. Beyond that though, my uncle used to have several tenantments. They aren't in fantastic condition, but they're furnished and it would give you a place to sleep. Even if the job doesn't work out, you can keep the room until you find something better, okay?" He said each word carefully, keeping his eyes on her face.

Victoria took a moment to consider the offer. It wasn't charity exactly; she'd be working. "Are you sure?" She'd seen headlines about him inheriting his Uncle's wealth, but she'd really had no idea of the scope of it. He owned property?

He considered a moment and nodded. "Of course I am," he said, actually not entirely but willing to say so. "I'm sick of doing all my own paperwork."

"I'm sorry." She said, eyes averted back to the table, "I don't mean to be a burden." Her shoulders drooped, as her previous estimations of her own skills suddenly seemed tawdry and overinflated.
Part of her wanted to get up and flee right this second. Go hide in the bathroom or something, she wasn't really sure. Just separate herself from the decision to accept. She needed the job, and the place to stay, but somehow needing it took away any sort of relief she could feel at someone giving it to her.

The black tom blinked at that. "Did... did I ever say you were a burden? You're doing work, aren't you?"

"No that's not- umm I mean-" Victoria continued to flounder through half complete objections before giving up at actually explaining herself and just saying, "Thank you."
If this were an interview and not an act of charity, she was quite sure she'd be getting politely escorted out the door.

Coricopat returned at that moment, setting a drink down in front of Victoria and a glass of water in front of Mistoffelees. He settled back in his chair, sipping his own drink, "Everything going well here?"

Looking first from the glass of water to Coricopat, Mistoffelees smiled at him before looking at Victoria. "I believe so," he replied.

Victoria nodded, not raising her gaze to to see Mr. Zimmerman. Her hands closed around the drink and she said an automatic 'thank you for the drink' as she took a sip.

"Well, that's good to hear," Coricopat nodded. He glanced around the club, "Any dancing tonight?"

Mistoffelees glanced at Victoria and considered how much alcohol she'd had that evening before glancing back out onto the floor, considering the dancers. "At least a dance," he agreed and rose, brushing a hand across Coricopat's shoulders. "At most two. I'll be back," he said softly before melting into the crowd around the dance floor as the song changed.

Victoria watched Mistoffelees go, feeling a little distressed that he hadn't asked her. Maybe that was for the best though; she could use a moment to pull herself together.

Coricopat watched Msitoffelees go, reminding himself of the others words from earlier. He glanced at Victoria, "It's Valentine's, perhaps see about a dance for yourself? I might give you something else to focus on."

"hmm? Oh- uh right." Victoria said, her attention flitting briefly to Mr. Zimmerman before jumping out to the sea of people. It didn't look like Alonzo would be on break anytime soon, and she didn't recognize any of the other people out there. There were certainly a great many out on Valentines day. "I uhh-" Victoria started, flitting another nervous glance towards him. "I don't suppose you dance, Mr. Zimmerman." Her tone was light, but a little forced. Suggesting such a thing of such a dignified cat was a very bold move for her, but she was actually rather curious.
