Sonya weaved in and out of cafes along the downtown street. It was as far from that damned tailor shop as he could make it, while still in search of good coffee.
There was no way he was going to his usual haunt, not after the day before at any rate. Finally settling on a cafe, he pushed the door open, heading for a table toward the back where hopefully he would be able to flee in case that tom did manage to show up.

Lou entered one of several cafes in the downtown area near the Chrysalis. He wasn't a regular, but he'd been in before. His gaze swept over the tables and paused when he spotted the police commissioner. Debating for a moment about interacting with Sonya on as little sleep as he had gotten the night before, Lou finally made his way over, "Do you mind if I join you?"

Sonya blinked up at him and motioned across from him. "Please," he murmured. This at least was a tom he did not mind sharing a table with, and he hardly expected the man to hold his wallet either... Shaking his head slightly he signaled a waitress.

Lou settled across from the other tom, leaning back in his chair, "How have you been?"

For a moment the larger tom actually considered--in part because he wanted an answer and in part because he did not want to actually admit what was going on and needed a better lie. "The usual ups and downs," he started slowly. "Various cases, lots of paperwork, strange cats hanging around."

The bandleader nodded slightly, glancing up at the waitress who approached, "Just a coffee for me. Black please."

Sonya nodded at the waiter, ordering the same basic coffee. "And you?" he asked as they left. "How has life been treating you?"

"Exhaustingly," Lou answered. "It's been moderately hectic all told. Ups and downs, with an unusual number of the latter." He'd been at the Chrysalis working til nearly dawn and then his sleep had been plagued with nightmares the likes of which he hadn't had in years, waking a couple hours later and unwilling to go back to sleep.

"Yes," Sonya agreed. "There does seem to be many downs lately."

"Ah well, that is life I suppose. Has anything new happened in your life? The newspapers seem rather quiet all told in comparison to most months."

"They have been," he replied. "Which at least means some relief. Not sure it is as much relief I was would prefer out of life at the moment, but it is some." Actually, he might take a murder over what he was currently feeling--no, that was just cruel to the citizens of his city he was supposed to protect.

Lou inclined his head, "Well, as long as it grants some relief there is something to be said for it."

"In the public sphere at least," he added as the coffee arrived.

Lou offered the waitress a quiet thank you before picking up his coffee, sipping at it, "Well, that's where we have such a time concealing ourselves more often than not."

"I am not so sure," he replied. "Growing up in a rich house hold and holding a public position my private and public lives have always been rather intertwined. My relief now is at a lack of murders in the city, but I am hardly sure that means much. I am still under scrutiny."
