To say Martin was less than excited would be putting the entire situation quite mildly. Besides his employer suddenly descending on him with a list of requirements to deal with the coming holiday festivities, he was still reeling from the abrupt, not quite secret marriage marring said employer's reputation.
Shaking his head more to himself than anyone else, his eyes narrowed behind his glasses as he looked out over the foyer.

Griddlebone descended the main staircase wearing a longer-skirted version of the dresses that were currently in fashion. She wasn't sure she cared much for it, but she would deal with them for now until she could take the time to find something more to her taste. She adjusted her coat around her shoulders, she was going out to see if she could find any other dresses that would follow the current fashion and suit her tastes this afternoon.

She paused, considering the merits of ignoring him, but finally made her way over, "Yes, Mr. Smith?"

Adjusting his glasses, Martin considered her. "So you are here permanently then?"

She frowned slightly at him, but nodded, "Yes. I am. Is there a reason you're asking?"

"Well," he said, looking her up and down. "You hardly look the part."

Her eyes narrowed at that, "I'm in process on that. Is there anything else, Mr. Smith?"

"I simply worry about how you'll fare at the coming ball," Martin said sweetly. "It seems so far out of your normal range."

Griddlebone offered him a thin smile at that, "I suppose we'll have to see, won't we?"

"Yes, that is what I mean." She managed to keep the smile in place, "I shall certainly do my best. Is there anything further, or are you quite finished?"

He sniffed, shaking his head. "I believe I can be finished."

"Good day to you then, Mr. Smith," Griddlebone inclined her head to him before turning to leave again.

He scowled after her. Part of him knew better than to push Macavity's wife, and yet there was no part of her that didn't bother him. Shaking his head, he adjusted his glasses in annoyance and went back to his papers.
