Lou entered the dance, he'd frequent local dances when he could to see if there were any songs that could be added to the band's repertoire. This evening, however, his ears tilted toward the fiddle player. He was good. The band was short a fiddler at the moment, and that young man might be able to fill the slot. After the dancers dispersed and the musicians started to pack up, Lou approached the fiddler, "Not bad, lad."

Alonzo glanced up from where he had been very carefully cleaning the fiddle to put it away. "Thank you, sir?" he returned, clearly surprised by that.

"You play often?" He asked, glancing at the fiddle.

"When I can," he said with a broad smile. "I learned as a kit. You like the fiddle?"

Alonzo's grin just about split his face. "Music's grand, isn't it?" His accent slipped in around the edges of his words.

Lou chuckled, "It really is. It's a universal language, really. Play the trumpet, myself."

Alonzo grinned. "Don't have nearly as much experience with the trumpet, myself. You don't see them in reels and jigs so much. But I've liked the sound of it recently, especially."

Lou chuckled at that, "No, you really don't. Do you do much jazz fiddling?"

He paused and tilted his head. "Not formally. Sometimes people prefer that music for dancing so we'll play it."

"Thanks, sir," Alonzo said with a smile and paused. "You know, I don't think I ever did catch your name."

The tabby smiled a bit, "Lou Page. And you?"

"Alonzo O'Neal," he replied, Irish slipping into his voice again as he held out a paw. "What do you do with yourself then, Mr. Page?"

"I'm a band leader at a small club." He paused for a moment, "Actually I'm leader of a band at a small club that's currently short a fiddler."
