Macavity strolled through the Palace, mostly keeping to the edge of the crowd. After all, he was simply there to show his presence, and was attempting to downplay the alliance between himself and Mistoffelees, but not to come with his position would have looked too much like a snub.
Most of his mind was full of Griddlebone, but he peered around, finally spotting Coricopat and making his way over.

The lawyer was leaning against one of the far walls, a cup of punch in his paw, his gaze watching Mistoffelees and appraising each guest as they greeted the young heir. His tail tapped lazily against his leg, and his expression remained neutral. He glanced over as he finally caught the motion of the red tabby, "Evening, Mac."

"Evenin'," Macavity joined him in leaning against the wall. "How goes our little protegee?"

"He seems to be handling things well enough. I haven't seen anyone who will truly cause him trouble, so far. At least not beyond those I already expected. There are a couple I don't recognize, but I'll look into them later." He turned slightly to look up at the other, "How are you?"

"You know, the usual," he replied with a shrug. "Nothing much happenin' of note. Well, that's a lie, but nothin' new of note. How're you dealin' with the evenin'?"

"Well enough, why do you ask?"

"Cause I'm just a curious cat?" Mac replied with a grin, eyes scanning the crowd again. "Anythin' of note goin' on or are you ta focused on your little socialite?"

"Nothing of note, though there are several cats of note present. And I'm not too focused on him, I just don't mingle well, remember?"

The taller tom chuckled at that. "No, you really never have. Who all is here then, of note that is?"

"The police commissioner, Mr. Selkirk, an elegant queen I don't recognize but feel like I probably should know of which means I need to start doing some research, the guest list quite honestly reads like a who's who of Felidae at this point."

"Which is good for his publicity, right?" Macavity tilted his head. "He's been handlin' it well enough so far?" His eyes sought out the Police Commissioner automatically, tracking where the larger cat was in the room.

Coricopat nodded slightly, "He's been handling it well. He had to step off the floor for a bit after a conversation with the Commissioner, which I'll ask him about later, but all in all he's been doing well. He's in a mode that makes it damn hard to read him, so that's likely helping."

"The Commish has that affect on some cats," Macavity drawled, still watching the silver tom in question. "What mode would that be again?"

"Did you ever play a game at his table while he was working as a dealer in the card room?"

Macavity paused and shrugged. "Once, I think?"
