He had no idea what to do. He certainly did not want to just leave the other alone, not when he looked like that, but he would not get anything out of him about what really was bothering him... Shaking his head, Misto put the kettle off the stove, hoping that cleaning something would help.

After a good ten minutes of not moving past a single sentence, Coricopat snapped the book shut with a muttered oath and rose, going to fetch his coat and hat.

Misto blinked at the sound, turning around to see the other going for his coat. That never boded well. "What are... where are you going?" he asked, forcing his voice to sound normal. More than anything, he hated not knowing what was actually wrong.

"I'm going for a walk." Cori replied briskly, pulling the coat on and grabbing his hat.

Misto could feel the fur along his spine go up, and his tail twitched toward his leg as he glanced outside. "A-alright," he managed to bite back any comments about how dark it was. "Be careful."

"I always am." He opened the door, "lock it behind me." He spoke more out of habit than anything else, something almost empty in his tone.

Misto continued to frown. Something was very, very wrong. "Alright," he said. "You have your key then?" he asked cautiously.

"Mhm," He replied automatically as he slipped out, the door closing firmly behind him.

Misto returned to the kitchen, cleaning and glancing at the clock every once and a while, frowning each time fifteen minutes passed without the other's reappearance. He reread the letter and clipping several times, still failing to see their significance. Some reaction, certainly, but not that...

Coricopat wandered directionlessly for almost an hour, grateful for the slight chill the wind added to the air. It was just cold enough that he could blame that for the tightness in his chest that was restricting his breathing. He wanted nothing more than to lock himself away from everycat for a good week, maybe two.
He glanced up as the clock in city hall was heard faintly chiming 11. The last thing he wanted to do was return to the house. All things considered that was the worst thing he could do. It was just...too much. Too similar. Too new. Too...right.
He ran a paw over his face and finally turned back toward the house, approaching almost two and a half hours after he'd left. He checked his pocket and realized he'd left his key on the hall table. He could always pick the lock, but it was a balmy June night, if one discounted the wind, and he wasn't ready to enter the house again. After a long moment of consideration he simply sat down on the front steps.

Misto had long since moved to the living room, at this point actually pacing the floor. Wandering back to the kitchen, he saw the key sitting on the table and swore. He didn't want to unlock the door and leave it open, but if the other tom didn't have his key... Walking to the door, he opened it, meaning to just glance around to see if the other was anywhere in the area and blinked when he saw him sitting on the steps.

Cori didn't turn though his ears flicked back at the sound of the door opening and allowing the light to spill out onto the walk. His gaze was focused across the street, not really seeing much of anything.

Misto paused for a moment, before walking forward and sitting on the step next to him. "You know," he said after a long moment of silence, hesitantly. "You... you can talk to me. You've been there for me through... a lot, and I would... I'd like to be there for you."

The taller cat wet his lips as though considering it, but shook his head finally, "It's nothing."

Misto looked at him out of the corner of his eye. He figured calling blatant bullshit on that line wouldn't get him very far. "Well, the offer stands."
