Munkustrap entered the Demoniaque, his paw resting around the envelope in his coat pocket. He'd gone by Brachen's apartment that morning and located the letter. It had been a request given by a dead-cat-walking, and it regarded his brother. The least he could do was fulfill it. He passed the desk clerk without a glance, taking a guess where Mac would be, taking the time into account.
The silver tabby's steps grew more hesitant as he approached his brother's office. He knew he was going to deliver the letter, but he wasn't sure how good an idea it was...

Macavity had actually made it to his office that day after Griddlebone left, but he was fairly sure no one would dare bother him. Hearing somecat's pawsteps though he glanced up, feeling too fragile to really deal with many cats. Instead of his usual greeting, he called out, "Who is it?" He was deeply annoyed at Martin allowing any cat up with no warning.

Munkus paused before opening the door and peeking around it, "Mac, it's me."

Mac blinked up at his brother and shrugged. "Oh, 'Straps. How you doin'?"

Munkus entered, his paw tracing over the envelope again, "I'm doing well enough I suppose. How are you?"

There was a moment when Macavity considered laughing in the other's face, but he shook his head instead. "You are kiddin' right? Askin' me that? I'm vertical. I'm in my office. Don't ask more from me. You? You don't look tarred and feathered or run outta town."

The younger brother's ears flickered at that, "No, I'm still in tact in that respect. Is there anything I can do for you, Mac?"

Macavity shook his head at that. "Doubt it."

Munkus hesitated for another long moment before finally drawing the envelope from his pocket and setting it on the desk before stepping back, "I gave him my word that I'd see that you got this."

For a moment Macavity couldn't react, looking between Munkustrap and the letter and swallowing hard. "O-oh. Thank you."

"I...it's the least I can do. If there's anything you want from his apartment, the police still haven't found it," Munkus mentioned quietly.

Macavity swallowed hard and nodded. "T-thanks... I'll see to that ta then."

Munkus watched him for another moment before nodding slightly, "Take care, Mac. Let me know if you need anything." He hesitated a moment longer before slipping out and leaving the hotel to head back to the house.
((exit Munkustrap))

Watching him leave, Macavity waited for a while before finally flipping open the letter.

October 25, 1925
Mac,
I'm not sure if you still live in Felidae. I'm not even sure if you're still alive, but you're the only cat I've ever known worth the second thought, so here goes nothing.
I've been traveling around, and I'd planned to go back to Felidae at least once before I died, but some inbreeds down here in Tennessee are saying that's not happening. I've got a couple minutes to write this before they string me up, so it might not be the most poetic thing, but I'm trying to stay calm and the weight of the pen is comforting right now, so I'll make this quick and hope I don't forget anything.
I think I'm realizing that being with you was the last time I was happy, and I'm regretting not going back. I wanted to see you one last time before I went.
One more thing.
I think I do believe in hell, Mac.
Love, Brachen
