Tugger wrapped on the door of the speakeasy, he was annoyed with himself for being late and still somewhat fuming from his conversation with Mistoffelees. Beneath his pride he was starting to feel a pang of guilt as well, though it would be some time before he could decide if it was justified, or indeed, aknowledge it.
On top of that, Tugger knew he needed to talk to Griddlebone today, and let her know he was giving up working there. He had enough affection for her that he knew he would feel guilty not offering a reason, and also worried because if things went pear shaped at the PD, then he was jacking in his only source of income. He sighed, shifting a little as he waited to be let in.

The white queen looked up from the paperwork she was going over. She really should go uptown and try to speak with Macavity tonight. Brachen had been caught two days before and she couldn't even imagine how the red tabby was doing.
She brushed his hair away from her eyes as she went and opened the door. "Yes? Oh, Tug. Come on in." Stepping aside, she motioned for the tom to enter, promising herself she'd go see Mac as soon as possible.

Despite everything, Tugger's expression was somewhat sheepish as he stepped through the door, "Sorry I'm late," he ran a paw through his mane, "things have bin' kinda' hectic recently."

She shrugged in response. "As long as you're ready to work when you get here."

Tugger nodded, "Well I'm here ain't I, didn't come jus' f'lunch." a pause, "Though I need t'talk t'you about that as well."

Her brow rose slightly, "Well, if you don't mind me multitasking while we talk... I have some extra things I need to get done today."

A shake of his head, "That's fine. Anythin' y'need me t'be gettin' on with at the same time too?" He would find it easier to talk if he had something else to distract himself with in addition.

"You could start wiping down the tables and bar." She replied, moving back over to where she had been working on the papers. "So, what is it you needed to talk about?"

Tugger nodded, depositing his coat on a spare chair and rolling up his shirtsleeves as he headed behind the bar for a cloth. "It's pretty straightforward really," his ears flicked as he spoke and he quickly focused his attention on wiping down the bar top, "I gotta'... Well from next week I can't work f'you no more. Ain't nothin' personal," he added quickly, "you've bin' good t'me, it's jus'..." he searched for the words a moment, scrubbing a little viciously, "the way things are."

Milady looked up from the work she was doing, one eyebrow arching, "Is there a particular reason?"

Tugger sighed, here was that difficult question again. For a moment he considered letting Milady in on his plans, but the last thing he wanted was for this to get back to his brother. He couldn't imagine Macavity would take too kindly to hearing that Tug wanted to join the PD, better to wait until he could at least prove it was a worthwhile persuit.
"I got my reasons, yeah." Tugger replied, not elaborating. His focus flicked back to the cleaning, though his ears were laid back somewhat.

Gridlebone sighed, "Tugger...Is everything alright?"

"Everythin's fine." The shortness of Tugger's response rather negated the actual words.

Her ears went back, "Really?"

"Fine enough." Tugger replied. He finished the bartop and headed into the kitchen to wash out the cloth. "No different t' usual anyhow." he muttered, more to himself.
