Ricky considered how to answer that, knowing the truancy laws. "My family needs th' money from th' papers."

"Still," Sonya murmured, flipping the paper open but paying more attention to the kit. "It is a shame. How old are you anyway?"

"Almost fourteen," Came the nearly defensive reply.

Sonya's brow arched somewhat. "I only asked how old you were, I never implied your age," he said, though he was somewhat hard pressed to believe the small kit was really that old.

Ricky crossed his arms over his chest, not buying it, "A'right then, how old did y' think I am?"

The kit grimaced, "Yeah, pretty much everyone thinks that. Once in a while somecat'll even guess younger. Hell knows my brothers seem t' think I am..."

Sonya blinked once, somewhat surprised these brothers let him work if that was the case. "Well, then you just have to use that to your advantage," he said with a shrug. "If cats underestimate you, you can often times..." he trailed off, not finishing with 'get away with more.' "Oftentimes prove them wrong, sometimes to your own advantage."

Ricky grinned, "Why d'ya think I sell more papes than most cats my age?" He liked this cat, ignoring the age thing.

Sonya chuckled. "Ah, the secret is out then."

"No, I doubt that would be a particularly sellable secret unless others were of your basic built," Sonya replied, still smiling faintly and glancing through the headlines again.

Ricky shook his head, "An' they ain't." He glanced over the large cat, "So what're y' doin' out an' about right now? Most cats've gotten their lunch an' been back t' work for 'bout an hour."

Sonya blinked and sighed. "That's because most cats get that lunch break and do not work all the way through it."
