"Sorry. Didn't mean to," Jack murmured. It's a fine line between being protective and condescending, and Jack did try to stay on the right side of that line - he hadn't forgotten how much he hated it when others were condescending towards him when he was a kit - but sometimes it was hard.

Ricky had a habit of taking both of them as condescension though, so there really was no winning in that regard. He shrugged, "It's okay I guess, but I do know better'n t' go out on my own after dark."
